The Pro-South comedy 'Sweet Home Alabama' debuted last night with a take of close to 13 million which is slighly under the single day record of 13.3 million for 'Rush Hour' in Spetember.

Since Saturday Night is 'Date Night' expert expect that number to go up and the film to gross close to 40 million for the weekend making Resse Witherspoon second to Julia Roberts as a leading current female star.

A new affinty for films of the south or new star power of Genration X, or a combination of both..you make the call!

I suspect their definition of 'Pro-South' and mine might differ. I'll wait reviews from trusted friends to see if it was terribly stereotypically offensive.

You lost. Get over it. No amount of Hollywood makeovers will change the fact. The midwestern farmboys were just too tough for ya....

Respectfully,

The previews look pretty funny..Reese is trying to find her dad in the middle of a Civil War Battlefield re-enactment and shouts 'Daddy' and every one of the supposed dead soldiers gets up and responds!

You lost.

More accurate to say, "Everybody lost." Let's throw off chattel slavery for some of the populace and institute political and economic slavery for everyone! Hurrah! Freedom! For the anointed. For you and me it's, "We will take this % of your income and if you don't like it we will jail you. We will also jail you if you say anything upsetting to one of our poor, politically-protected subgroups who were treated badly 1.5 centuries ago." Thanks, Abe. Remember: Might makes right!

It has to be better than the disappointing "Four Feathers". For insightful movie reviews and more go to:

Ugh. Deliver me from Brittney, Courtney, Ashley, and all of these pretentious soap-opera names...

What can have possessed me to open this can of wormy history? My ancestors who did, in fact, march in the victorious Grand Army of the Republic, were much more self-controlled, repectful and dignified---as far as I can tell.

It may not have been poor old Honest Abe who brought us to this dismal pass (which you accurrately describe). He was as much a victim of history as anyone. But I certainly agree we are there.

I think "Tip of the Sword" is filled with the milk of human kindness---or something like that. We musn't bloody his Reese's peanut butter cup thread with our earnest anachronisms....

Oh believe me I know. Sadly I won't be around to see it, I'm going to go watch "Sweet Home Alabama".

Oh, wait a minute. "Romantic comedy". Mebbe I'll just watch "Black Hawk Down" again and play some Warcraft 3. Plus it stars Julia Roberts, and I've heard enough empty-headed, ignorant, unattractive, silly, vapid, stupid people talk today.

Damn that C-Span.

Reese Witherspoon is a far better actress than Julia Roberts. Julia Roberts is more of personality than an actress IMO. Reese Witherspoon is the real deal. She can play any type of character in all sorts of movie genres.

I think Reese may be bigger than Julia right now after Legally Blonde 2.

Reese plays the 'everygirl' role of Meg Ryan and Julia is on the downside of her career.

Reese was great in "Freeway". This new one looks like it might be worth seeing, too.

Reese can play the stuck up blonde or nice girl even better than Meg Ryan in some instances.

Hollywood has been waiting for a long time for a young actresss with Box Office staying power, there just aren't any out there!
