Madelyne Toogood, who was caught on tape allegedly punching her 4-year-old daughter in an Indiana mall parking lot, has a New Jersey connection.
Nude photos of Toogood's daughter, Martha, were reported to police in Wall Township, N.J. The pictures had been taken after the alleged attack.
The clerk at the photo counter in an Eckerd drugstore told NBC 10 that as soon as the pictures came through a processing machine, he knew something was wrong -- the entire roll of film was of a naked little girl.
"If you were to just see these photos without context, your first reaction, I think, is that 'I need to notify law enforcement,'" said Assistant District Attorney, Kenneth Keller.
Dr. Jack Haberman dropped off film on Friday, police said. When Haberman arrived at the store the next day to pick up the pictures, police were waiting for him. They took him to his house a few blocks away and questioned him.
Haberman told police that the girl's mother took the pictures while he examined her for injuries.
"Ms. Toogood, when she came to New Jersey, met with a lawyer in Morristown, N.J. That attorney has a prior professional relationship with Dr. Haberman and the attorney arranged to have an exam take place," Keller said.
Authorities don't know why Toogood came to New Jersey to have her daughter examined. So far they have not been able to question her, but her lawyer confirmed Haberman's story.
"Our focus here, strictly, is this child pornography or are the photos taken in conjunction with a medical examiner," Keller said.
Authorities said that they weren't sure what good the pictures will be for anyone because they are of very poor quality -- a lot of them blurry or out of focus.
Keller said that by the end of the week they should make a determination of whether any charges will be brought against Toogood or Haberman in connection with the nude photos.
BTW, jail the mom.
A hundred years ago they would have been called Gypsies, but they have a new name now. They travel from one town to the next, running rip-off schemes (roofing, driveways, etc.) and their usual victims are the elderly.
Most of the time they skate along a razor-thin edge of breaking the law. They cross the boundary between legal and illegal when their calculations tell them they can outrun the consequences.
The lady is good at 'spin' and it's interesting to see the varying degrees to which people (especially the liberal news media) swallow the bait.
Sit back and watch it happen.
However, I think the pictures were taken as "evidence", and not as porn. God only knows when the pictures were actually taken, however. I heard that she mentioned taking the photos on one of the talk shows, too
IN NEW JERSEY???
"Spring Lake was developed to a large extent by Irish-Americans as a 'resort of elegance in the 1870's and remains one of the loveliest enclaves on the Jersey Shore"
Yeah, I know, time for a tinfoil hat. But I think I know why she went there.
Well I certainly agree with you about the mother. However, I am not in agreement that the child should be held by the government. To my knowledge the father (biological as far as I know) has not been accused of beating or abusing the child. I cannot imagine if this happened to my family & my children was taken away from me based on something my wife had done, or based on unsavory actions by others of my ethnicity. I would bet if the situation was reversed, where the father was the beater, the mother would have custody.
I dont see why there couldnt be some sort of arrangement where the father retained custody and whereby the mother had a restraining order and could see the child away from the CPS authorities. I would even suggest the CPS allowed surprise visits & the father and child had to check-in w/ CPS every week or more often. Even the child and father wearing an ankle bracelet would be acceptable. I just dont believe it is better for the child for the government to be in custody of her, especially when the father has not been accused of anything.
