Immediate military action should be launched against Baghdad to overthrow Saddam Hussein's regime as a means to liberate the Iraqi people, a Kuwaiti newspaper said on Monday.
"We don't only support a strike on the Iraqi regime but we also call for immediate military action to topple the regime," Al-Watan said in a front-page editorial.
"The liberation of the Iraqi people should be the title of the coming phase," which can only be achieved through toppling the (Iraqi) regime, "as soon as possible." Saddam Hussein poses much less of a direct threat to the United States, Israel and the Gulf countries than to his own people, the paper added.
"Never in history has a leader like Saddam caused so much suffering to his people, including imprisonment, torture, rape and murder," it said, describing those ruling Iraq as "gangsters" who have not hesitated to use chemical weapons on their own people.
"Those who object to eliminating Saddam Hussein under the justification it should be a decision by the Iraqi people, are actually ignoring the real suffering of those people who are incapable of removing the regime," said al-Watan.
The pressure on the left will be so unbearable they must come aboard.......even though they'll snipe and sniffle the whole way:)
With Qaatar onboard with a couple of major airfields, this is a done deal. The US could act alone and do whatever it wants in the mid-east and much of southern/central asia.
It must drive China and the EU completely bat-sh!t-nuts to know they cannot influence events.
Only the Russians can influence events at this point......and they can be bought. Their only interest in Iraq is commercial/financial.
I'm betting they want "commercial concessions", their $8bil and Iraqi oil OFF the market. Our interest is the elimination of terror, WMD in the mid-east (except Israel) and oil pumping unfettered at $25/barrel no matter who is pumping it.
However, the EU wants both Iraqi oil ON the market, they also want "commercial concessions" and someway to placate the Greens. The rest of the Arabs abhor the thought of liberty in an important regional nation. The Turks want no Kurdish state and maybe a little oil and pipeline business.
I think the solution may be to split the commerce and oil equally between Kuwait, Turkey, Russia and the US.......while maintaining the territorial integrity of Iraq under an initially IMPOSED "trust" to these countries.
Then we must impose a fully democratic, secular market-based society after everyone is paid off.
Screw the EU and the UN. They get nothing. They get to be irrelevent.
Come to think of it, that may be the answer for the entire mid-east and Arab world. Time we solved this problem once and for all.
Excellent!
