Its high time for the Republicans to get some backbone.

It has nothing to do with backbone. It has to do with core beliefs versus the poses they adopt to try to convince people they are "different from the Dims" so that they can get elected. They don't fight the Dims harder because they don't WANT to "win" if it means reducing the size or power of the feral gooberment. They know where and how they get their biscuits buttered.

How much longer are the Senate Pubs gonna put up with that blow-dried weeny as their leader?

What makes you think they are "putting up" with anything? Lott is there doing what they want him to do,cave to the Dims. This is the same thing Bob Dolt made a career out of.

All he knows about leading is how to lead the race to see who can cave to the Dems first.

I rest my case.

You are right about it being high time for Republicans getting some backbone. As a matter of fact it is high time Conservatives in general get a little backbone and turn out and vote for real conservatives. The Democrats(Liberals) knock down every conservative appointment that Bush tries to make and push every liberal right over the supposedly Conservative Republicans and this is taking our country down the drain.
If conservatives dont turn out in the upcoming elections America is doomed.Just read from the state of Massachusetts that the ACLU taking on state over exit exams for high school students saying they are biased against poor and hispanics.America no longer resembles America from even 30 years ago.All of these people talk about heritage, all the while between them and the ACLU it throws every principle and value this country was founded on out the window. Our tolerance is way past being tested and we are to weak back to take a stand because we have had it good to long.We have to cater and change all our rules to accomodate foreigners while at the same time we disregard the heritage of those that were born here and want only to be American. It is time to take a stand and say enough!

This is the result of the republicans allowing Carnahan to be seated in the first place. IT WAS ILLEGAL

Is that the $200 billion more for education?

Absolutely correct.

Ashcroft wanted to be a "gentleman", so we've had two years of paralysis.

Shalom.

Thank you, Old FRiend, for noticing and for saying so.

I also thought Ashcroft's behavior throughout that campaign and while she was being criminally seated in the United States Senate was the behavior of a limp-wristed scoundrel.

I've not been too much impressed since, come to that!

While the Carnahan-Talent situation presents an interesting scenario, it is not really all that important. The make-up of the Senate in January, 2003 IS important. In other words if Talent wins but the other races turn out so that the Dems would retake the Senate in January, the Pubbies will be able to do nothing during the 1 1/2 months they would "control" the Senate. The Dems can prevent an organizing resoultion during that period, so they keep chairmanship and majorities of all committees. There is nothing Lott or anybody else can do about that.

On the other hand, if the Pubbies get 52 or 53 Senate seats starting in January, then the handwriting will be on the wall and the Pubbies will get real control--either in November or January, depending on whether the Dems throw in the towel early or obstruct just for the sake of it til January.

Sure it takes time to organize; that's what contingency plans are for, so that when you DO win, you're ready to go.

Or is the whole concept of "winning" so foreign to our good GOP senators?

"They already are the minority, they just don't know it yet!"

But the Dims don't behave like the minority.
I recommend they take lessons from Trent Lott and Denny Hastert on how good little minority members are expected to behave.

What? You say Hastert's NOT in the minority?
Then why does he act that way?

The republicans allowed Carnahan to be seated ILLEGALLY......they set the tone and now they pay the price. That old slippery slope in action.

"Lott is a conservative. If he had 60 conservative votes, the world would be a very different place."

Bullsh*t!
'Vacant' Lott is a weasel, the consummate politician, and a disgrace to the state of Mississippi!
Just because you might not be able to win doesn't mean you can't at least try, and at the very least show the voters where you stand, and where your opponents stand.

Otherwise, how is anyone to know there is any ideological difference between Trent Lott and The Chappaquidick Kid?
Oh, wait a minute - bad example!
There IS no difference!

Dead man on the ballot. The fact that he was elected does not give his widow the rights to the votes.
