Apparently, she now has pneumonia and is quarantined. Also, her family has told hospital staff not to release any information on her condition.
Is this pretty standard or are they trying to hush-hush something? It sounds like it might be worse then they admit.
U.S. Rep. Patsy Mink remains in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Straub Clinic and Hospital while being treated for pneumonia brought on by chickenpox.
"There's no new news. She's still receiving treatment and it's going to take time," said Joan Manke, Mink's spokeswoman.
Mink was admitted to Straub on Aug. 30 suffering from chickenpox. She was moved to the intensive care unit after the virus led to pneumonia.
Mink, a Democrat, is running for re-election to Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District, rural Oahu through the neighbor islands.
Manke said that the congresswoman's campaign has not ceased during the time.
"We're moving forward with the campaign, and nothing has changed on that," Manke said.
Mink's opponent in the Sept. 21 primary election is Democrat Steve Tataii.
Hawaii Democrat Patsy Mink remained quarantined in a Honolulu hospital's intensive care unit today, suffering from pneumonia caused by the chicken pox. Helen Lewis, Mink's chief of staff, said she had "no new news" about Mink's condition. The lawmaker has had no communication or contact with her staff or constituents since being placed in intensive care Sept. 7. Mink originally was admitted to Straub Clinic & Hospital on Aug. 30 after contracting chicken pox. The virus is commonly a childhood illness but can cause serious complications to older victims. Mink, serving her 13th term, is 74. Mink was given a leave of absence from the House on Sept. 10 that extends through the end of this week.
My son was 8 when he had them and he was really sick, with bumps all in his mouth and throat and couldn't eat anything except chicken broth and jello for about a week. And to add insult to injury he got sick the day before his birthday.
You are not wrong. Years ago it was common for parents to intentionally expose their children to build an immunity to a disease that is more serious in adulthood.
