We're working on that. If we get the Republican nominee we stand a good chance of getting CCW here in Kansas.

I'm across the state line in Colorado. Ours is not a "shall issue" state but much of the patchwork of laws has been consolidated into one state law and lower jurisdictions can not supercede. Further, a CCW permit is positive defense and the weapon may even be carried onto school grounds. Lastly, the CCW permit is issued by Sheriff (elected) and / or City Police Chiefs (not always elected).
Many sheriffs like there jobs and as such, have a positive policy ($100, background check, safety class = permit). I'm lucky enough to live in Adams county where that is still true. In fact, due to the changes in the law, a knife could also be considered a concealed weapon.
Been thinking about getting one myself.
