I Knew Neville Chamberlain - President Bush, You're No Neville Chamberlain

Borrowing from the line of Lloyd Bentsen, we are incredibly lucky that we have a president who is Churchillian rather than being Chamberlainesque.

Had Western Europe not pretended they could get along with Adolph Hitler and took action early, perhaps millions of lives could have been saved.

Peace For Our Time
by Neville Chamberlain

The following is the wording of the printed statement that Neville Chamberlain waved as he stepped off the plane on 30 September, 1938 after the Munich Conference had ended the day before:

"We, the German Führer and Chancellor, and the British Prime Minister, have had a further meeting today and are agreed in recognizing that the question of Anglo-German relations is of the first importance for our two countries and for Europe.

We regard the agreement signed last night and the Anglo-German Naval Agreement as symbolic of the desire of our two peoples never to go to war with one another again.

We are resolved that the method of consultation shall be the method adopted to deal with any other questions that may concern our two countries, and we are determined to continue our efforts to remove possible sources of difference, and thus to contribute to assure the peace of Europe."

Chamberlain read the above statement in front of 10 Downing St. and said:

"My good friends, for the second time in our history, a British Prime Minister has returned from Germany bringing peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time...

Go home and get a nice quiet sleep."

-end-

As you know, the Brits did not get to enjoy their quiet sleep too much longer. It is difficult to sleep with Germans dropping bombs on your cities.

Some people do not learn from history. I was among a group of them at the L.A. protest on Saturday. They are naive and foolish, and I suspect they have never even read the words of Neville Chamberlain.

President George W. Bush will be the Churchill of our times. Thank God the RATS did not get away with stealing Florida.

Substitute "Algore" for "Neville Chamberlain", and "Sodom Hussein" for "Adolf Hitler" in the above passage, and you have an idea of the bullet we ducked two years ago!

If memory serves me right, on that very same day, Hitler had authorized further actions on his war preperations.

So much for a scrap of paper.

I believe that Mr.Churchill responded to Mr.Chamberlain thus:"Sir,You Could Have Returned With The Possibility Of Peace With Honour,Instead You Have Returned With The Certainty Of War And With DisHonour"!!!(or words to that effect)

Was "Lord Bentsen" referring to "BeelzeBubba" as being "Churchillian"?

No, it was in the VP debate in 1988. Quayle made a reference to Kennedy and Bentsen told Quayle he was no Kennedy.

We're much better off with a cowboy from Texas than a pantywaste-pothead from Tenn.
