[history]
Embattled Martha Stewart looked like the diva of disaster yesterday when she went antiquing in the Hamptons. Trying to put her stock scandal on the back burner, the diva of domesticity paid a visit to the annual Mulford Farms Antique Show and Sale in East Hampton.

I can see in my imagination the witch Martha melting just like the witch in the wizzard of oz. I'm melting, melting, melting.
To: Liz
Matha isn't culpable because she did not give anything to her boyfriend in return for the insider info.
BTW - Sex doesn't count, especially at Martha's age.

poor, poor martha, she really stepped in it big this time
merrill just paid a hundred mill fine for the antics of their so-called analysts, and they're in no mood to cover her sorry butt
bacanovic (who used to work for imclone) IS a broker and stewart WAS a broker, which means they both passed the series-7 exam
which, if nothing else, means they both know perfectly well what a good-till-canceled stop-loss order is
which makes their story transparently false, nobody as busy as she is needs the aggravation of having to "talk" further to her broker about whether they should dump it if they already decided at what price it should be done, which was, according to her stupid story, "if it falls under 60"
which means you throw a stop in at 59.xx and forget about it
especially when only a piddling quarter-mill is involved
now, in addition to the insider problem, her problem includes lying to the s.e.c.
stupid dummyrats, they think they can outsmart everyone by lying and covering up

Matha isn't culpable because she did not give anything to her boyfriend in return for the insider info i got news for you, she doesn't have to "give" anything to anyone to be culpable, she merely has to trade based on the knowledge
i love it when stupid dummyrats get caught by their own silly laws, the same ones they think are such bright ideas
insider trading should not be anything but completely legal, as restricting purchases or sales by anyone impedes market efficiency and prevents other participants from gaining information from market price action
i hope martha has a good time decorating her jail cell

Following Stewart around antique sales? Things have to be really boring as heck. I have never seen an article regarding following Ken Lay , Andrew Fastow or anyone from Enron around? No Global Crossing followings to super markets and ball games? Is this nit picky reporting done to women that make suspect deals only?

Is this nit picky reporting done to women that make suspect deals only? Oh, stop it. That's where newsworthy Miss Martha surfaced - at an antiques show - so that's what the papers reported. If she'd surfaced at a wrestling match or at a beer joint, no matter where, it would have been reported.
You sure you wouldn't feel more comfortable at DU?

Not only that, timewise (the crucial component), there's probably a sell verification slip floating around somewhere which the feds would like to see no doubt.

I can see in my imagination the witch Martha melting just like the witch in the wizard of oz. I'm melting, melting, melting. Nice analogy. Get out the Evian water to put Martha out of her misery (as in Dorothy's dousing the WW).

Liz,
I saw a photograph of Martha Stewart that was taken when she was a model back in the 1960's. She really was quite stunning. I have not found it on the net.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee has demanded that Bacanovic turn over the list of the trades he made Dec. 27, the day before ImClone stock tanked, and if any of his socialite clients are on the list, they could be in hot water. Looks like the feds may net quite a few more inside traders that they expected.

That windbreaker she had tied around her waist was to break up the wind eminating from her Steatophygian ass.
To: Liz
when i first heard about it, i gave her story maybe a 20% chance of being true, as i was assuming that the 12-27 sale was just the leftovers after the bristol-myers tender offer, and probably nothing of any great concern to her, even though her story sounded false on its face
however, it turns out that b-m only accepted 19.9% of tendered imclone shares, so assuming she tendered all of her shares, she still had 80% of her position
thus this sale was not just a matter of dumping the leftovers, and now i don't think there's more than about a 1% chance that she's telling the truth
as to what merrill may have turned over, without knowing what kind of automatic phone logs merrill's computers keep (probably extensive for their own legal protection), or how smart or dumb the broker was about how the orders were entered and what kind of electronic trail they left, or how many customers he was acting for, we can only guess
i'll bet it's juicy though, they put their broker on "adminstrative leave", and haven't uttered one word in his defense
To: AntiScumbag
(Merrill Lynch) put their broker on "adminstrative leave", and haven't uttered one word in his defense.... Broker's assistant's out too. Betcha he's the guy that snitched. ML is still smarting over the $100 mill penalty for pumping stocks brokers considered dogs. Course they had 'em on tape. ML better play the MS deal clean........

When your patron saint is Clinton of course they feel that way. obviously, but martha is about to learn that their tried and true deny-delay-distract ad-infinitum/ad-neauseum program doesn't always work
especially now that the public mood has changed along with 2 years of cratering markets in which the public's stake was at record levels
scapegoats are now in great demand, and will be for many years, and martha is becoming the new poster-girl
