Regulations requiring airline passengers to remain seated until 30 minutes after takeoff from Reagan National Airport led to an embarrassing incident for a Georgia congressman. Unable to wait in a long bathroom line when passengers were finally allowed to move freely, Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-Ga.) contends he had no choice but to ask a flight attendant for a plastic cup and some privacy.

He's a democRAT. They're lucky he didn't just whip it out and go on the floor.

That is how my 5 year old nephew is--he waits until the absolute last minute to go, but the catch is that he is only 5 years old, little boys do that type of thing.
I have flown in and out of Reagan National after September 11th, and the pilot always announces the time before the 30 minute waiting gap, in order to give people a chance to go if they have to. Perhaps this guy didn't hear that warning? I am actually surprised he wasn't flying first class.

Democrat or Republican. I have recently gone through Prostate Cancer treatment. Prostate problems can cause urgent needs especially at his age. I have had numerous close calls. At one time, after radiation treatments, I had to relieve myself every 1/2 to 2 hours. Not funny and does not regard political leanings. I carried a bottle in my car.

Planes flying in and out of Reagan are subject to security measures that other airports do not get. The planes fly almost directly over most important centers of the federal government, so they have no choice.
Such security does not take into consideration Irritable Bowel Syndrome (sudden cramping & diarrhea) or Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (sudden rapid need to void the bladder), the latter being the probable cause of the Congressman's mortifying situation.

We do not know if he actually had Prostrate problems or not.

"...little boys do that type of thing."
So do big boys. When I was in treatment (see post above), the urge would hit and I would have 5-10 minutes to respond. Often I would pass less that 2cc. Ain' funny and can be very embarrassing!

No, it's not funny, but we haven't heard of any known Prostrate problems from this guy yet.

"We do not know if he actually had Prostrate problems or not."
Very few men wear a sign. I, for one, am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. In any event, it is not the end of the world. Hardly worthy of piling on a dem.

If that were the case, his PR people would have given that as an exuse. But you are correct in that this isn't worth bashing the guy.

I don't feel sorry for the bum.
Until Washington's elites have to live by the same crap they inflict on us peasants, they just won't get it.

Good gadfreys, does he owe us a medical history. OK, you folks win. He is a dumb dem who likes to embarrass himself by wagging his whang in a friggin' airplane and pissing in a cup. Are you happy now? < /rant>

I understand why you are sensitive to this issue, but you have to give us some leeway for some honest questions here.

The sad thing is that the attendant felt a need to report it. What would have been wrong with providing him some dignity and going about business as usual when he was seated again?
To: CindyDawg
Perhaps she had to give a reason as to why she let him get up during the 30 minute everyone-is-supposed-to-stay-seated period.
To: CindyDawg
Although it does seem silly that the newspapers found out. I wonder what airline he was flying on. I personally avoid American Airlines and United if I can; Midwest Express is great and they always get my business when possible.
To: FreedominJesusChrist
Maybe, but who would have known? Unless I had no choice, I don't think I would have said anything.
To: CindyDawg
People often forget that Congressmen and women are normal everyday people too.
To: FreedominJesusChrist
Oh well, he ought to look at the bright side. Now that everyone knows, he can probably make a fortune on the "got to go" comercials and laugh all the way to the bank. CD
