Berger said it's clear that Gore is interested in running for president again, noting his strong performance in 2000: "He got more popular votes than anybody since Ronald Reagan." Regardless how good President G.W.Bush's poll numbers look now, I believe Gore will run again. I do not think Gore believes President Bush is unbeatable, especially considering that we're talking 2004. Politically speaking, 2004 is a long ways away.

"he got more popular votes than anyone since Reagan" Well lets see Reagan was elected in 80, that was 22 years ago, I would imagine the population of the U.S has grown alot since then. In 92 it was Slick, Perot, and George Bush, so that divided the vote by three. Sounds like another half truth from the Libs. I guess thats better than thier usual outright lies.

Number of voters in 1980....77,878,917
Number of voters in 2000....105,594,024
If my cipherin' is right, that's about a 27,715,107 difference.

Well then I guess GW got more votes than Washington, Lincoln and Jefferson combined!

Sure, he'd love to run. And by 2004 it will be a different world. But he has the stench of a loser on him now and that is practically impossible to get rid of. Plus the "inevitability" factor is gone. The others interested in running are not going to step out of his way.

The tree had better beware of forest fires named

If he thinks he can pull off enough extra votes this time to put his sorry rearend in the White House you betcha he will.
How can we stand to listen to him again? Ugh!

Don't just ascribe this to massive total population growth.
Remember, that 1986 amnesty for illegal aliens - after Reagan's reelection - brought hordes of people to citizenship and eligibility to vote. And most all of them would vote Democrat.
Klinton and Bush Daddy - and later Klinton and Dole - would split the vote with Ross Perot, the first really serious independent candidate since 1968's Wallace candidacy, which long predated Reagan's election.
In 2000, Algore similarly benefited from substantial elements of nonminority voters defecting from Bush to vote Buchanan. It's a safe bet none defected from Algore to vote Buchanan.
ALGORE IN HIS OWN WORDS, 1992-2000 - including Earth In The Balance!

Ask him how much of that popular vote was among the living.
