Whenever I read articles like this I can't help but think of the famous phrase uttered by my favorite Democrat, Patrick Moynahan: "Defining deviancy down."

Hart, the school principal, said the yearbook article should be treated just like any other controversial issue in a regular school newspaper -- as a matter of free speech. What a flipping coward(!) to hide behind the 'free speech' banner.

To some parents and students, the publication glorified teen pregnancy. Others say it was part of the reality of a modern high school.
I'll agree with the former. I'm wondering it it's also the latter...
Then again, teen pregnancy rates have been on a decline for the past few decades.

Folks, in the current political climate that "celebrates" diversity and touts sexual freedom for adolesents, did we expect any different?
I am currently in the doghouse for not allowing my daughter to go to a baby shower for an un-wed mother. Not only do I think such a shower to be in bad taste, but to participate would be infering approval. Granted, the baby will need things, but this is no reason to have a party.
Whatever happened to the days when there was a such thing as shame? Perhaps we have gone past the time when persons who have "made a mistake" would hang their head, but MUST we celebrate it?

When I was in public high school in the Seventies, any girl who got pregnant quickly disappeared, having been shipped off to a "special" school for rogues. Stigma? You bet! She was removed from the population because she was a bad girl. In my graduating class of nearly 800, there were maybe 10 such cases.
Sadly, the tide has shifted so far that today, what began as concern for her "self esteem" has gone way too far. It's now "cool" for her to have a baby.

Sad...terribly, terribly sad.

On one hand, teen pregnancy is bad. On the other hand, abortion is worse.
So while this article may soften what little stigma is left against teen pregnancy, it may also go a long way to convince kids that yes, that is a baby in there, not something you can just smash in the head and dump in the nearest garbage can.

What? No yearbook paternity pictures?

Her sonogram photo was featured in a yearbook article called "I just can't believe that I'm having a baby."They obviously need to bring their Biology classes up to speed!!
