Thanks for the ping.

Anyone knows that slavery existed at the time of our nation's founding. How we interpret that is up to each of us. I think it's better to focus on the ideal, knowing that the reality for some was different, and then note how far things have come today.

I've heard some black people who feel that they possess special knowledge when they talk about how there were white people living in slavery in this country. Endentured servitude was a way that some people used to seek their new life in America. I do not equate this with tribesmen who were captured in battle and sold off to foreigners (they typically weren't slaves for a finite time) but there are some people who did not learn about this in school.

There are people from Asia today who are living in (illegal) endentured servitude working in sweatshops in NY trying to pay back their ship voyage. History is forgotten and the present is under reported as well.
