He may not have washed his hands after going to the privy either, since the notion of proper hygiene was still developing. How could the father of our country shake hands with people after performing an unclean but necessary everyday activity? < /sarcasm >
If this seems off topic, that is actually one of the things that I was shown on my historical tour of Philly: Ben Frankin's privy. Some things are a bit too public and too much information. And just think, part of this latest $12million are probably federal funds so we are all paying for it...

I've heard some black people who feel that they possess special knowledge when they talk about how there were white people living in slavery in this country. Endentured servitude was a way that some people used to seek their new life in America. I do not equate this with tribesmen who were captured in battle and sold off to foreigners (they typically weren't slaves for a finite time) but there are some people who did not learn about this in school.
There are people from Asia today who are living in (illegal) endentured servitude working in sweatshops in NY trying to pay back their ship voyage. History is forgotten and the present is under reported as well.
