What "campaign" does he mean? It sounds like "Zionist press" paranoia. Creepy that he uses the word "consequences." All I've seen are attacks and voices from many quarters rightfully condemning them. If anyone knows what "campaign" he's talking about, I'm sure its worth discussing.
Though I remember that there was a story here at FR or two of Americans foregoing visits to France. If Chirac is thinking about this, I don't think he understands the American "street."
Or maybe it's just some bad cheese he ate.

Under Chirac, new laws have closed Christian churches across France...Baptists labeled as "cultists", etc., and formented religious intolerance aross Europe. Meanwhile, over 200 new mosques were allowed to be built on French soil. Did Chirac think that Christians around the world wouldn't be upset at France for their bigotry? How can these people call Le Pen a bigot? His words and actions haven't compared to the bigotry France's government has shown.

France is an example that shows we need to assure that Islamics cease infiltrating the USA through our open door immigration policy. Like it or not, the clowns at the INS are our first line of defense. We don't owe arabs an open invitation. On the contrary, they need to be turned away.

Typical French arrogance: Israel is busy shuttling to Washington and back; hosting the latest effort to get SOMEBODY to talk sense with the PA; planning the next retaliation to somebody terrorizing their citizens; fending off Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Eqygt, Syria, a half-dozen Islamic terror groups, not to mention Yassar and his goons....
and with all that on their plate... The French are whining that they're being picked on -- by ISRAEL! Like they'd care enough to start such a campaign even WITHOUT all that going on!
Okay, have it their way: let's tell everybody that France hates Islam, loves Jews, and was overheard suggesting that Salman Rushdie would be given a state dinner in his honor. I dare say they'll surrender within a week.

That would be the French ambassador to London.
Almost its equal, but less noticed, was Jospin's initial response to attacks on synagogues: "Ze government cannot guarantee ze safety of ze Jews when zey gazair in groups."
Right in there with the Berlin police suggesting that maybe Jews could try to not look like Jews when they go outside, if they don't want to be beaten up.
