I agree that children can be manipulative and liars BUT there are also many stepparents and YES parents who sexually abuse their children. My husband is a county prosecutor and it's heartbreaking to see the victims and the cases that can't be proven, especially when there have been several victims. A recent case, which was only identified because an 18 year old applied for welfare after the birth of her second child. Naturally she was asked the father of her first child. She didn't hesitate or gave a second thought to say her father. He actually plead guilty but in sentencing said that he was her father and therefore entitled to ....whatever (details not necessary)

I agree a balance is necessary...and I hope the witch hunt type thing is over. As a former therapist also I was alarmed when the whole oppressive memory thing came up, basically therapists trying to coax clients into thinking they might have been molested.

That being said, it happens much more than the average citizen realizes. Usually by a neighbor, boyfriend or trusted babysitter. And, actually, most guys plead guilty and have the luxury of a court appointed attorney. Naturally they received reduced sentences but also become labeled as sex offenders. I know the flip side is to criticize the prosecution for plea bargaining but it is hell to put a kid up on the stand and prove beyond a reasonable doubt the perp did it...BUT if HE DIDNT, he would NOT plead guilty. Plus he then gets labeled.

Just another perspective.

Good grief, I'll bet the burn-out rate in your husband's job as county prosecutor is high. Thanks for your balancing comments in post 5.
