On Saturday, April 20th, not-so-coincidentally the anniversary of Adolph Hitler’s birth, legions of lunatics descended upon our nation’s capitol. Behind the gray-haired ponytails of those who never really got over the 1960‘s, strode their modern day reincarnations. These folks, a weird amalgam of various Leftist grievance groups, at least had the persona down pat. Deodorant and soap, no doubt on account of their being a part of the hated “corporate culture”, must be shunned. And threadbare Goodwill clothing is much preferred over wearing something that surely was made in a Third World “sweatshop” by small and poorly fed children.
One might legitimately wonder what the Animal Rights weeds-have-feelings-too crowd could possibly have in common with the Free Mumia group, or with the Pink Triangled transgender-cross-dressing-pro-S&M guys. The answer, or ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) is provided by the folks who sponsored this Leftist LoveFest.
ANSWER is an offshoot of the International Action Center, a group aligned with the international Left - whose goals haven’t changed since they were financed by the Politburo. Their basic core is anti-Americanism. Anything opposed to the traditional American values is heartily supported by them, which explains the inclusion of the Pink Triangles and other groups such as the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA.
Journalist Ronald Radosh, writing for Front Page Magazine warns that the anti-war “cause” has been seized by members of what he terms, “the leftover Left” as a means to power. The anti-capitalist, anti-globalization groups have teamed up with the anti-Israel crowd, forming an unholy cabal who share a complete disconnect from reality.
This pairing of the pro-Palestinians and the radical Left is, in truth, quite apt. They share a vision of a world completely turned on its head; an Orwellian embodiment of TruthSpeak, where all the words are lies. In their Alice-through-the-looking-glass world, the evil regime of brutal Communist dictator Kim Jong Il (right) becomes the “Democratic People’s Republic of Korea”. Oppressor Fidel Castro becomes the beloved and benign “President of the Republic of Cuba“. No word from the IAC on why innocent Korean citizens are starving despite massive U.S. aid, or why droves of desperate Cubans continue to flee their island paradise in leaking and rickety boats.
So, the cause of the “oppressed” Palestinian people, suffering under the unjust jackboot of invader Israel, becomes yet another delusional fantasy embraced by the radical Left. Israel‘s self-defense against the tide of jihadist homicide killers becomes Israeli “militarism” and “aggression”, perpetrated on the completely innocent and pacifistic Palestinian people.
This twisting of the truth, calling your enemies what you yourself actually are, is a time-honored tactic of the Left. In their weird parallel universe, the besieged Israelis become “Nazi oppressors” while the actual Nazi oppressor Yasser Arafat becomes a “freedom fighter”. In this, too, the radical Left and the pro-Palestinians find themselves in perfect harmony, denouncing Israeli “fascism”, while it is they who are the actual fascists.
Quick quiz. Who said this? Adolph Hitler in the 1930‘s, or Sheik Abdul Rahman al Saudis, chief cleric at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, last Friday? “Jews are liars, parasites, dirty, crafty, sly, wily spongers, maggots, eternal bloodsuckers, repulsive, unscrupulous monsters, a foreign menace, avaricious.” Compare that diatribe with this one… “Jews are the scum of the human race, the rats of the world, the killers of prophets and the grandsons of monkeys and pigs.” Hard to tell the difference, despite the passage of 60 years.
How about this sentiment…”The Jews are engaged in a worldwide conspiracy. They seek to control the world finances and the press. They invented liberal democracy and Marxism. They promote prostitution and vice.” Compared with this one…”The Jews spilling blood to prepare pastry for their holidays is a well-established fact…a needle-studded barrel is used, with extremely sharp needles…the Old Testament requires the Jews to glorify this holiday and show their joy. This joy can only be complete with the consumption of pastries mixed with human blood.” Again, the modern day anti-Semitism is indistinguishable from the 1930s type.
Thus, the Big Lie is once again promoted by the radical Left. The group which purports that it wants to “end racism” is, instead, actively engaged in it. The crowd which marches for “peace” expresses solidarity with those conducting a vicious war in which total annihilation of the enemy - by any means necessary - is the ultimate goal.
Also enlightening is the manner in which the “peace” advocates approached the DC counter-rally, the “Patriot’s Rally”, sponsored by the Free Republic website. Their violent attempted incursions, along with endless and mindless epithets (the application of the greatly intellectual “F-U” and the raising of the middle finger (in lieu of spirited discourse) spoke volumes about the tattered intellectual underpinnings of their “movement”. These undisciplined juveniles are just Frat Boys who smell bad. Their ignorance and willingness to suck up Leftist propaganda astounds. Arafat puts Leni Riefenstahl to shame.
To those whose minds haven’t been depleted by the use of mind-altering drugs, the path is clear. Israel is targeted, along with America, because it is a democratic country which operates on free-market capitalistic principles. Israel is a bastion of Westernized success in the midst of backwards Middle Eastern squalor. This makes Israel’s existence intolerable, both to the socialistic, radical Left and the radical Islamists. Likewise, it makes Israel’s survival against determined Islamist terror inextricably bound to our own.
When our own postmodern cultural relativists beat their chests in paroxysms of self-guilt, we should ignore them. Western culture, personal freedom, technological advances and our open societies are values worth fighting for. Certainly the radical Left thinks so, that’s why they keep appropriating the ringing words, even though they support the exact opposite. ***
