Rep. Jeannette James, R-North Pole, said the change would also allow Alaskans to carry their weapons in more states, which will give them security while on vacation.

"My personal opinion is people who are law-abiding should have the right to carry concealed if they want to," James said.

Knowles Press Secretary Bob King said the governor has serious concerns about the bill, but would not say whether he would veto it.

Too many politicians are control freaks at heart. The history of concealed carry is clearly positive because people getting the license are law-abiding. All this nervous nellie silliness about standards reflects the demand that everything be blessed by legislators.

"It is time to finally, to the gun lobby, say you have gone far enough," Porter said. "The risk you present is too great for this state."

There are about 4 million CCW holders in the United States.

Has there ever been a case when someone with a permit in one state, legally carrying in a different state, committed a crime?

I doubt it.

"But House Speaker Brian Porter, R-Anchorage, said Senate Bill 242 -- which has already passed the Senate -- would let people from states with far less stringent laws than Alaska's carry their guns here." (Anchorage Daily News)

So what? Does Porter also worry that visitors from some states in Red Nation have less-strict driver's license standards than Alaska?

Every day, Americans drive in other states - and even Canada - despite widely-differing licensing, license-suspension, and insurance requirements in their home states.

I'm glad Porter got elected; at least that means he can no longer apply his bizarre reasoning as a police chief!

I'd ask a slightly different question: Has there ever been a case when someone with a permit in one state, legally carrying in another state, committed a crime that wouldn't have been committed without state-to-state permit recognition?

The answer is, "No, not ever, and there won't be in the future."

I agree with another posted who said too many politicians are control freaks -- they get into government because they like government, and they like telling others what to do. It's a constant problem, but progress is still possible.

I'm sure there have been situations in which people have committed "crimes" like going someplace they would have been allowed to in one state but not in another, and stuff like that.

Not sure how to best handle that, though, except to have national legislation authorizing CCW.

Deputy Public Safety Commissioner Del Smith said of 39 states that have concealed handgun programs, 17 have less restrictive standards than Alaska.

I am confused. Please help me out. Every other article I've read on concealed carry has stated there are only four states which do not have concealed carry ----Illinois, Nebraska, Ohio and Wisconsin. Concealed weapons bills are pending in Kansas, Missouri and Ohio.

So which is correct?

"Since then, there has been amendment after amendment after amendment," Porter said. "This to me is the final step too far."

Those damn Liberals are always killing us with incremental this and incremental that.

When are we going to What? What was that you say? We are the ones going incremental? Hell I didn't think our side knew how to do that! Whooheee.

Anyone with a permit to carry a concealed weapon in another state could also carry a gun in Alaska under a bill that narrowly passed the House on Friday.

I love Alaska.

This wasn't so much in regard to implementing CCW, as to reciprocity for CCW.

Reciprocity will hopefully reach all 50 states in time.

(Kali, MD, MA and a few others may take a while.)

To Rep. Brian Porter:
It's not "the gun lobby", you silly twit, it's "the people"!
Or to someone like you, probably, it's "Our subjects".

"Anyone with a permit to carry a concealed weapon in another state could also carry a gun in Alaska under a bill that narrowly passed the House on Friday."

Alaska will then join Michigan in that regard.
Both states could look to Vermont, however, for instruction in how to handle concealed weapons - no permit required if you're legally allowed, i.e., not a felon.

I can hardly wait. With my Florida CCW, I can already drive all the way from the sunshine state to Michigan, packing the whole way, and if it wasn't for Colorado/New Mexico blocking the path, I could do the same and go all the way to the Canadian border in Idaho and do the same.

I like it.

(Kali, MD, MA and a few others may take a while.)

That's for certain.
