Can't hold back progress the federal government has no power to ban cloning anyway( not that that has ever stopped them before).

What are some of the problems which result as a consequence of the process?
To: Tumbleweed_Connection
Cloning well im not a genetic engineer or molecular biologist I know it degrades the telemores( telemore decay believed now to be the root cause of aging) a small part of the chromosone also part of the genome may be damaged when the cloned nucleus is implanted in an embryo still these problems can all be solved in time I wish I could be more specific.

Eliminate the sickle cell anemia gene. No more sickle cell anemia among people who inherit two copies of the gene.
BUT a single copy of the gene protects against malaria.
You've just eliminated a natural immunity to one of the scourges of the tropics.
What we know about inherited diseases isn't dangerous. What we don't know, or worse THINK we know could be lethal...

OK, we'll skip specifics and go to end results, they suck. Who are we to callously experiment/play with life to determine better results?
To: weikel
Telomers dropp off with cell division, until they run out and the cell loses the ability to divide. We have a special name for cells that can divide limitlessly. We call it cancer...

Who are we to callously experiment/play with [human]
life to determine better results? That's why God made animals...

They suck now but that will change as the research goes forward which it will the US may not reap the benefits with its ( unconstitution)outlawing by the Federal Government Imminent here. Imagine how a country would benefit by cloning 1000 Einstein's we are tinkering because the Human race is pretty flawed now. Having this research in the US even if you are opposed to it is a matter of National security and survival I'm surprised Rumsfeld isn't giving Bush hell over this( imagine China with a race of cybernetic superhumans and the US with the same old dumbasses which comprise the vast majority of the human race now).

That's why we have playos.

Imagine how a country would benefit by cloning 1000 Einstein'sSadly, we are dealing with politicians, we'll end up with 1000 Clintons...
To: weikel
There's nothing to imagine, we don't destroy humans to create. The entire concept of the clone is awful. You want to design the genetics of another? Blind, deaf, thin, hair color, sexual preference...? Not a real society.
To: null and void
Well there are drawbacks to all forms of progress LOL.

True, but every problem has a solution that is simple, attractive easy to implement, and WRONG.
Before we change the future of the entire species, we need a clear picture of the unintended consequences...
To: Tumbleweed_Connection
Get over your revulsion if its banned in the USA other countries will reap the benefits and leave us behind the genie is out of the bottle and its an issue of national security now thats the cold hard reality of the situation.

(pssst! What's a playo?)
To: Tumbleweed_Connection
You want to design the genetics of another? To some degree, we do this every time we pick a sexual partner based on a nice eyes, or a cute butt...
To: Tumbleweed_Connection
I would outlaw engineering any disabilities into a clone( making blind deaf crippled etc people is sick) and would furthermore have all clones be free citizens but any society that supresses this in the long term faces military defeat and domination by those that won't and then your ban is worthless.
