Clashes between rival factions

Fresh disturbances have taken place on the Limestone Road in north Belfast.

Police and the Army came under petrol bomb and pipe bomb attack after clashes between rival groups on Monday.

A hijacked lorry was set on fire but there were no reports of injuries.

On Sunday night, a pipe bomb was thrown during disturbances in the area.

Up to 100 nationalists and loyalists began hurling stones at each other, before police moved in to separate them.

Petrol bombs

On Sunday several soldiers and police officers were injured in clashes in north Belfast.

Rival loyalist and nationalist groups clashed in the North Queen Street/New Lodge areas on Saturday after reports that houses in the Duncairn Gardens area had been stoned.

Officers moved in to separate the gangs but the security forces then came under attack.

The police said more than 40 petrol bombs were thrown at them.

Alight

A number of police and army vehicles were damaged and some were set alight. Several were doused in petrol before petrol bombs were thrown at them, a police spokesman said.

A number of cars were hijacked and set on fire. One was set alight and rolled at police lines.

One person was arrested.

Flashpoint areas of north Belfast have frequently erupted into sectarian trouble in recent months, with clashes on almost daily basis.

probably not a good idea for the Irish to make noise while the war on terrorism is under way.

Clinton's great legacy of peace continues. Another George (ultra-lib) Mitchell plan in action.

It's nice to see the Eurotrash reminded of what the Israelis have to endure.

I wouldn't be so quick to lump the Irish in with Eurotrash. They're Europe's black sheep.

It's not really "the Irish," it's just a bunch of punk gangs. Most Irish people really are sick of the IRA and terrorism in general.

Go read a bit about the Irish situation and come back and talk with the adults.

With a war on terror ongoing with Britain as the US.s biggest supporter and ally, this would not be a good time to start up terrorism in Ireland.

Question? Is terrorism the same in Ireland as in the US? Or is this again another exception?

Thanks for the ping, BC

This is not the IRA. Starting about a month ago, loyalist mobs (including British skinheads from Yorkshire) began attacking Nationalist homes on the Nationalist side of the peace line. The nightly attacks continued with little or no help from the PSNI/RUC. Finally, this past week, the Brits decided to step in to reign in some of the violence.

Over the past few years, the more the PIRA is held to the cease-fire, the heavier the attacks have been upon Nationalists in Northern Ireland. Of course there will be those uninformed who think that all violence in NI is at the hands of Nationalists. The propaganda machine has run its course well. For instance, there was a recent 'break in' at RUC Special Branch HQ, during which classified info was stolen. The perps had the key, so to speak, and the whole thing screams 'inside job'. But several days later, the press starts blaming the IRA. As if IRA lads go in and out of highly secure facilities and steal damning evidence of RUC-Unionist terrorist collusion.

"...propaganda machine has run its course well...

Well the propaganda machine of the BBC seems to be quite objective in this article, they do state that both sides are clashing and do not designate who was throwing the petro and pipe bombs.

And the Muslims have been making life miserable for the Jews and any unfortunate Christians in the Middle East since the time of Mohammed, around 1400 years. Your point?

Never called the Irish Eurotrash.

Maybe "jerk" was wrong. "Unable to read" seems to fit better.
