Coca-Cola in Secret Plans for Vanilla flavored Drink ('Vanilla Coke' Flagship Drink)
Financial Times and Beverage Digest ^ | March 31, 2002 | Richards Tompkins

Posted on 04/01/2002 7:41:06 AM PST by codebreaker

Coca Cola the U.S. soft drink company, is secretly working on plans to launch a vanilla-flavoured version of its flagship coke drink.

If the project goes ahead, the new drink -probably named Vanilla Coke-will be the biggest launch of a new Coca Cola product since the disastrous inroduction of New Coke 16 years ago.

Coca Cola would not confirm or deny it was considering the launch, saying only 'we've got a number of things in development.' But the latest edition of Beverage Digest, a respected industry newsletter, will reach subscribers this week quoting one U.S. bottler as saying: 'It's over 90 percent certain, and its a great idea.'

They'll never beat an ice cold RC Cola and a moon pie. Or a coke with a hand full of peanuts in it.

Vanilla Coke is terrific stuff. I add high-quality pure vanilla extract myself, though. I'm sure Coke's will use some "vanilla-flavored" substance.

Yum, vanilla Coke. Bad for me and oh-so-tasty. You are right, thought - they will probably use some crummy alcohol free fake vanilla flavoring.

I hope that's not an April Fool's Joke. I remember Vanilla Cokes from our old corner newstand.

Yummy!

In Kansas City there is a large chain of gas stations called Quick Trip, or QT for short. If you get a soda at the fountian you can add vanilla or cherry flavor to it. I haven't tried it yet but I guess I will so I can see if I like the new coke or not.

I still put a drop or 2 of vanilla extract in my Rum and coke.  It really does improve it.

Or a coke with a hand full of peanuts in it.

I was thinking about that the other day. I couldn’t remember whether it was peanuts in coke and milk in pepsi, or the other way around.

The drug stores used to always have cherry-coke, vanilla-coke, chocolate-crème soda, and any other combination you could dream up…
