It didn't get much press, but California Gov. Gray Davis had what sounded like an emotional meltdown the other day, during an interview with the San Diego Union Tribune.
Sounding extraordinarily defensive about bungling the state's energy crisis, Davis barked at a Tribune reporter, "I saved this friggin' paper. I kept the lights on in this state. Do you understand that? I kept the lights on."
When the scribe's gratitude for Davis' Herculean efforts wasn't immediately forthcoming, the California Democrat expanded on his rant, according to Fox News Channel's Brit Hume.
"I should at least get a round of applause (but) I don't get squat," Davis complained. "People just roundly criticize me."
Then, in a comment reminiscent of fellow Californian Richard Nixon, the emotionally overwrought governor whined, "This was worse than being in Vietnam. This was a full-out war against me."

It's sad to see someone lashing out like this. It's a poor display.

Is Limbacher the last person in the country to hear this story? This is old news.

I understand that this is not unusual behavior for our esteemed (barf) gov.

Not that I have standing to raise this issue as an Ohio resident and non-veteran, but does anyone else find the comparison to being a Vietnam veteran grossly insulting?

As an inmate, er, citizen of the Madhouse of California, I have tried to maintain
a minimal amount of respect for The Gray One because he did serve in the US Army
in Vietnam and was decorated.
But this latest rant is just a bit beyond the pale.
Sad thing is, he'll probably pull out all the stops with his approx. $30 million
warchest, slice-and-dice Simon, and all the Democratic lemmings/voters will
return him to office.
I don't trust the polls that put Simon ahead...it's too early and the Gray One has yet
to start really fighting/sliming.

Have ANY of the California politicians who were responsible for hindering the development of new power plants in the state over the past 20 years EVER been held publicly accountable for their folly and its consequences? Not to my knowledge . . . so why should it turn out any differently for Gray-out Davis?

I can't decide when he'll finally snap; before the debates or during.

Old news? I am a news junkie, and this is the first time I have heard about this! Suppose a Republican governor had done this? Trust me, I would have heard about it.

I was a news junkie especially focused on Davis and the energy crisis at the time. It had been reported in several newspapers long before NewsMax picked it up.
Granted, it didn't receive national publicity, or probably even statewide publicity to any real extent at the time.
But it wasn't a secret.

An oldie but goodie, worth repeating. Maybe someone will bring it up a couple more times before the election.
