Foley Wants Government to Regulate Death

They say that the only two things that are certain in life are death and taxes. And, if the government could get away with taxing the dead, they would do so.

Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL) has made a request to the General Accounting Office to investigate the desecration of cemetaries nationwide. He says he believes that the government should regulate the funeral industry to try to protect cemetaries, since they regulate everything else.

How is getting the federal government to regulate cemetaries and funeral homes going to help stop the desecration of graves? What are they going to do, unionize the corpses?

The only way the federal government could stop the desecration of grave sites is by putting all cemetaries under lock and key, with guards to guard the gates. What a boring job that would be.

Regulating buriels and what goes on inside funeral homes will not stop the desecration of the grave sites after the corpses are buried.

I can see it now, God forbid, if one of my family members die and is sent to a government-regulated funeral home. Everyone knows that government workers only work when there is a quota to be met at risk of losing their jobs. Our loved ones would be placed in line at the morgue and may not get proper buriel for months. And then, if the guards are placed at the cemetaries, we would have to get permission slips to visit their graves.

Gone would be the days of remembering a deceased loved one on their birthday, or anniversary. Gone would be the opportunity to teach your child to respect his mother's memory. There is no respect in government regulation. There is only cold, hard, impersonal service by someone who claims to be doing their duty as a citizen.

Just like the corpses.

Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you nineteen for me
'Cause I'm the taxman
Yeah I'm the taxman

Should five percent appear too small
Be thankful I don't take it all
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman

If you drive a car I'll tax the street
If you try to sit I'll tax your seat
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat
If you take a walk I'll tax your feet
Taxman

'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman

Don't ask me what I want it for
Ah-ah, Mister Wilson
If you don't want to pay some more
Ah-ah, Mister Heath

'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman

Now my advice for those who die, Taxman!
Declare the pennies on your eyes, Taxman!
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman
And you're working for no one but me
Taxman

I don't think the Republican have any chance of taking the cemetary vote from the RATS.
