Space shuttle Columbia captured the Hubble Space Telescope early Sunday in preparation for a tuneup the crew will give the orbiting observatory. After chasing the telescope for nearly two days, the shuttle caught it approximately 360 miles above the Pacific Ocean southwest of Mexico as the pair hurtled around the Earth at about 17,000 mph
ISLAMABAD, Mar 3, 2002 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- An intensive earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale on Sunday jolted Pakistan's eastern Punjab and the North-West Frontier Province, with no immediate reports of casualties or damages. According to the Seismic Center in Peshawar, the quake, which took place at about 5:10 pm (1210 GMT), had its epicenter in the Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan, 250 kilometers north of the western Pakistani city of Peshawar.

For all you conspiricy theorists.....The space shuttle is up (note partial story above from AP and Yahoo) and then we have an earthquake in Pakistan (partial story linked from Drudge).
I know it was mentioned in the movie Conspiracy Theory with Mel Gibson and Horselips Julia Roberts. But it does seem like whenever a shuttle is up, there is a major earthquake somewhere. Tinfoil anyone?????

>But it does seem like whenever a shuttle is up, there is a major earthquake somewhere. Tinfoil anyone?????A more devious version of the theory is this.
The "Establishment" knows that what we are calling "earthquakes" are actually caused by some group or another. The Establishments gets some kind of heads-up for when one of these "earthquakes" is going to happen. They then send up the shuttle to monitor the cause and effect of the incident.
Yes, the shuttle is up there. But it's not causing the earthquake, it's just trying to track the Illuminati's handiwork.

What?!? You don't know about the WWF Ray?
Let's get ready to rumble!

Is there ever an earthquake when it's NOT up??
What is the percentage of total earthquakes occuring when it's grounded??
Granted, statistics are funny things..
maybe a little like like lawyers...
You can make them say a lot of things, and you don't even have to pay them...
OTOH
Is it possible that the thermobaric explosions in Afghanistan sucked all the air out from under them and they settled a little by isostatic adjustment...
Isostatic is on the same page as Israel in my dictionary..

There's a long history of powerful deep quakes in the exact location of the recent one, long before the Space Shuttle or Thermobaric bombs were ever developed :-).

I hadn't heard your devious theory before. I like that one. Tis interesting that the earthquake is in Pakistan. Maybe somebody is not playing by the rules, so they need a little reminder as to who is the boss.

My knowledge of earthquakes is limited, but I think there are earthquakes continuously going on on our fair planet. They are, however, not noticable to most people, or in places where there is no one to notice.
However, there are biggies occasionally, and it seems like the "biggies" happen when the shuttle is up. Apparently the Pakistan one, counts as a biggie, or at least it was big enough to warrant a news story.

Your theory is like understanding and appreciating a complex but wonderful Napa Valley Cab..
