CNN Atrocity in Mazar-e Sharif, The Only Atrocity Is CNN' s Coverage
Vanity | 11/ 15701 | tom paine2

Paula Zahn introduced a story this morning about atrocities by the Northern Alliance in Mazar-E Sharif. When the reporter in the city explained the " atrocity", it turned out that it was a fire fight between the Talban and the Northern Alliance. During the fight the Taliban were asked to surrender several times. They refused. They died. End of story. The real atrocity is that CNN is still on the air.

What is the life expectancy of Zahn's brilliant career? She is losing it. I noticed her liberal leanings during the election fiasco.

On the other hand... I am traveling this week (by commercial air) and thus reduced to CNN in the hotels. I personally observed Christianne Ammanpour (sp?) in a live report from Kabul stating that when she asked residents if they were scared /frightened of the bombing by US planes, that the residents reported 'no, not really, because they were only hitting militray targets. There were a few misses, but generally we were not scared of being hit' [or words to that effect] Blew me away. Then she managed to point out that there was still fighting going on up north in 'Kunduz' or some such city (to make the point that 'Oh yeah, well the Taliban haven't totally given up!! sniff...)

Anyway I was very surprised to hear HER report those words.

BUT. Right after that they went to some CNN dweeb in Texas who three times had the opportunity to say "prayer vigil" to describe the actions of relatives of the rescued Americans, but could only refer to it as "vigil". He aslo had a very snide tone to me. I expect bias at CNN so I see it.

The real atrocity is that CNN is still on the air.

I read a report yesterday that Fox is beating CNN in the ratings despite CNN being available in 11 million more homes than Fox. Take joy in the thought that Zahn is helping to widen that rift. CNN will soon be competing with NPR for audience share.

No the real atrocity is that dumb broad who has the brains and the personality of an airline stewardess.

Other horrible events witnessed by CNN: people playing music, women looking for jobs and even removing covers from their heads, a radio station, Pro-US speech...

The morning guy opposite of Paula is none too bright either. Yesterday talking with a military expert standing while standing on that big map. He kept attempting to put words in the expert's mouth... and kept repeating "this can only be described as a very tense situation". This after the Taliban pulled out of Kabul!

It seems as if CNN is disappointed there aren't more bombed out "hospitals" or "milk factories".

That's an insult to airline stewardesses...

I saw the advertisment for her show last evening and I was sure I made a point to miss it. Did Paula report that the Taliban forces inside the school shot the Northern Alliance representatives when they came over to discuss peace terms?

As a former flight attendant, I find that remark offensive.

Wait a minute. Tali-tubbies are an assembled group, largely of non-Afghanis and the locals hate them. Their leader has tied his fate to Osama and has announced that he has plans for a really big strike against the U.S. So 500 or more of his terrorist warriors chose to not surrender and they got killed. It is in America's best interest, all things considered, to appreciate this.

Incidentally, the stories of how native Afghanis take their sweet time killing off prisioners (just ask the Russians) makes me appreciate why the Tali Arabs and Pakis don't want to be captured.

NPR has a P and an R in it's name and CNN has a C. That's the only difference I see.

expecting CNN to report knowledgeably about prayer is like expecting Jack Kevorkian to file an objective report about abortion

I saw Amanpour repeating the Afghan's praise of the Americans too. Thought I was dreaming. Said the people were happy to know she was from America. Still doesn't make up for all the rest of the America haters on CNN.

Looks like Zahn abandoned a perfectly good lifeboat for the Titanic. She's definitely in her element now, though.
