Airplane prank lands teens in trouble By The Associated Press (10/30/01) Two 17-year-olds were taken into custody Tuesday, suspected of buzzing a junior varsity football game in a Cessna 150 and dropping rolls of paper towels from the aircraft. According to Friendswood police, fans at the game called 911 shortly before 5 p.m. to report suspicious packages being dropped from a plane. The plane landed at nearby Clover Field, where it was met by police. The FBI also was called to investigate. Friendswood is about 20 miles southeast of Houston. Television news said they had been charged with deadly conduct. That's one I've never heard of before. I have been having some guilt because of this teenage prank. What if they had heard my story and wanted to duplicate it????? Could it be?? Did they hear that in 1966 TYR (real name withheld) and two of her friends buzzed the Friendswood High School football game below the lights just to say "Howdy" to all the folks in town??? Could it be??? |
Oh the guilt! |

Could be worse - they could have been met in midair by USAF ordinance.

Pranks in this time of crisis will be considered as hoaxes.
And is punishable..

Are two seventeen year-olds allowed to legally fly an airplane? (Just curious what the requirements are.)

Paper towels? Something tells me this is a euphemism for toilet paper....
To: PBRSTREETGANG
Yes, one was a licensed pilot.
To: Texas Yellow Rose
This is why I don't let my son borrow the airplane.

I'm sure the parents will blame the teachers, principals...anyone but their children

Actually, I don't know if there is an age requirement for flying.
I do know, that when I was seventeen I would drive my friend who was sixteen to a small airport where we would go flying in a small plane...he could legally fly the plane, but not drive the car.

Paper towels? Something tells me this is a euphemism for toilet paper....Exactly! It's HALLOWEEN!! What a great way to toilet paper an entire neighborhood!!

The age requirement to hold a pilot's license (or solo) is 17; there is no age requirement to take lessions. This stunt demonstrates my long held opinion that the minimum age needs to be bumped to 21. If we can't trust em with a budwiser -- why do we let them FLY AIRPLANES!?!?

And here I was, wondering where Beavis and Butthead had gone! I am just surprised that a pair this moronic could fly a plane!

Gee SpineyNorman, I guess you'd better lump me with this Beavis and Butthead group. Only there wasn't a Beavis and Butthead in 1966. All I can say was that it was a stupid stunt that could have had serious consequences (adult TYR speaking) but my experience was also loads of fun! |
Some of the younger teens have been flying since they were very, very young. Some of them are very good pilots. They also happen to be teenagers!!! Therein lies the problem! |

Paper towels? Something tells me this is a euphemism for toilet paper I think you're right. I know the kids around here and they do have a thing about wrapping everything with toilet paper expecially around Homecoming time.

Somebody smack these idjits...

I don't know the exact time but several years ago some kid buzzed the Alvin stadium in an ultralight and dropped toilet paper during a game. He got in big trouble too, but I don't think quite as big as these guys.

Yes, one was a licensed pilot. Heard he only had his license for 6 days.
The shortest flying career in history..

Some of the younger teens have been flying since they were very, very young. Some of them are very good pilots. They also happen to be teenagers!!! Therein lies the problem! You're right but kids do things impulsively and don't consider the consequenses. My sons, now grown tell me some things they pulled when they were that age that would have made my hair curl but the oldest did say one thing that made me proud. He said he probably would have tried more but knew he would get killed when he got home and didn't do it. The youngest agreed with him.
They were actually afraid of me. LOL.. I love it.

Somebody smack these idjits... I hope things do turn out okay for them but I also hope the cops and FBI scare the tar out of them. Actually the pilot sounds like he might be good marine aviator material. They all have to be a little nuts. ( Don't flame me, my son was a marine aviator)
