I believe Petrus means stone. So the last pope could be an Italian stone cutter or mason. Or the son of one. Good point. Or perhaps, given his alleged apostate nature, the other kind of Italian 'Mason'...
There is one fact that incredibly almost everyone forgets : John XXIII was in my opinion an apostate - but JP II is the first Pope that claimed openly to be an apostate.
