You guys are going to have to get your entertainment from "The Sopranos" this year. Hee Hee Hee. You guys get to wear down Oakland for us. Hint: Hudson and Mulder are getting quite hittable down the stretch. They're tiring.

As an old Rainier fan in the '40s and '50s, when I was but a sprout, I rejoice in the Mariners' success. Before we moved to Los Angeles in 1946, I remember going to a game in Sick's Stadium, and people were listening to the Billy Conn vs. Joe Louis fight on the radio. Don't remember if the Rainiers won the game. Kewpie Barrett, Edo Vanni, JoJo White, Hillis Layne, Earl Torgeson, ad infinitum.

Sorry, we're jumping the gun just a tad. We'll get it tomorrow. We'll take care of Oakland, if need be. We haven't started our best regular lineup since early June. Sweet Lou has it ready to roll. And just look at Hudson and Mulder the last three weeks. They've pitched more innings than they've ever had before (by a good margin) and it is showing.

What the h*ll happened to the Mariners this year? Has ANYONE been able to explain how a TEAM with few--okay, "no"--superstar talents has been able to dominate as Seattle has?

Bear in mind all you who think this is ho-hum: This is over a 162-game season. That MEANS something. This is no fluke, which is what the NFL "champs" have been the last five or six years.

Analysis?

We've owned them all this year. Doesn't it look to you like Clemens is getting a tad tired here at the end? Losing to TB for cryin' out loud!

That's true, but consider: They have DOMINATED every team they've played. NO ONE has gotten their number.

I don't see any reason why they shouldn't go all the way, do you?

Atlanta won't get out of the first round this year. They made it to the division series ONLY because the Phils ran out of gas late, and the Mets put themselves too far behind to catch up. They will go into the NL playoffs with the worst record of the four teams there.

Ah... my friend, I've watched the Rainers vs. the various incarnations of Tacoma teams (Giants, Cubs, Twins, etc.) for many years growing up. Isn't it great to finally have this great game be centered around our area. We've had so much history with Baseball up here (minor leagues), and we've had such a huge baseball fan base up here -- and now we have a stadium that is world class and team to match it. Damn! It's fine, isn't it?

The Yanks win when they have to. They don't care when there's nothing at stake. That's been their story since '96.

My hat's off to the M's, but they'd better hope that the Yankees take care of the A's the first round or else they will be watching the World Series on TV this year.

I don't get this one. The Mariners and A's are in the same division, therefore they've seen each other about, what, sixteen times this year?

So what was the series record?

Illbay, you are something -- and from Texas too! (My relatives are visiting right now from Texas -- they like having ARod, who wouldn't?, but they are with us too). I tell you what, when Texas puts a team around ARod to match his talents, I'll back you all the way too.

10-9 Mariners. And the three game set in Oakland that the A's swept was right after the M's clinched the division and rested most of their starters. The next weekend the M's took 2 of 3 from the A's. As per usual.

You're allowed the vanity.

Congrats to the Mariners. That's an impressive record, no matter what. Even the second place Oakland A's chalked up a better record than the other two division winners.

I've seen enough Yankee world series to last a century, so I hope it's either Seattle, Cleveland, or Oakland representing the American League!

If the LA Dodgers were winning 116 games it would be big old news. Tis true. I still remember touring the Kingdome back when I was 7 when it was built. Back in the good old days when everybody was ignoring Jim Zorn and the Seahawks and Alvin Davis and the M's. For good reason too ;)

Seattle has a mythic quality for me. My great-uncle was a priest out there. My mom and her immediate family drove across the country to visit him. She came back longing to return to Seattle, a place she thought was magical. My mom has often spoken of Seattle. That was before Seattle became known as the place where rich people live.

And let me tell ya -- the outlying areas are much nicer than the city.
