I hope you are right, but I have read to many 'USSR Deception' articles.

So have I. Just forget the articles... it's hard to do sometimes.... and think for a second.

Put yourself in Russia's shoes. Who poses the greatest REAL threat? Putin knows we won't first strike. And he isn't an evil demonic man... he doesn't want his own people to suffer... so he won't attack us first either.

But Russia has to fear incursions of the Arabs. They have in Chechnya. They can look south and wonder what will happen with all of the fragile nations that were once part of the USSR. Russia does not want to be overtaken by Muslims....

Additionally... get out a map. Look at China. They can't use the seas to expand.... because we Exist. Russia cannot compete with our Navy. If China started to invade....say..... Japan.... We'd kill every single naval vessel or transport existing. And there's not a damn thing China could do about it.

To the South and West, they have mountains... used as defensive barriers for centuries. But now, it becomes their prison. How hard would it be for India or the Arabs united to pick off an infantry column in the mountains?

What's left?

One free use of infantry and armor. Great plains to the north. Russian. Mongolia. Siberia. And north and sharply west .... and then north, into the Russian heartland.

No physical barriers. And the only physical barriers in existence are restraints on the Chinese NOT to march in another direction.

The Russian military is great. But how well could they defend against 10? 50? Million riflemen marching north?
If I was the Chinese, I'd cut the pipelines, cut the railroad, blow the bridges... and then what would the Russians do? Tanks in the snow? Done that before? Well this time the invaders have 10 times the population... An invasion from the East would be very, very deadly.

If I can think of this, then the Russians have...a lot...

I really think we are missing a genuine opportunity to get closer to the Russian people.

Look, I tend to put it in these terms. Because of my own biases... Russia, the US and Japan have the technical capacity to start settling the solar system.

WHY? should the US and Russia fight? Over this world? There are DOZENS of other worlds and moons to conquer. And we can do it together, or at worst as capitalist opponents, not physical ones. I know this is a diversion from the topic at hand.. ... but ONLY The leadership of Russian and American people can acheive this. We have a greater destiny ahead of us...

If I was Russia... I'd engage in a geopolitical strategy to make the US... ... ...slightly... uncomfortable, all the while wishing to draw them nearer.
