WASHINGTON -- Rep. Barbara Lee did not come easily to the decision that made her the lone member of either the House or Senate to oppose President Bush's plan to use military force in retaliation for last week's terrorist attacks.

The California Democrat tearfully told her colleagues Friday night that she shared their anger at the calculated murder of thousands of innocent civilians. Like them, she said, she was filled with sorrow for the victims and their loved ones.

Courage and integrity? I hope she is recalled and Steny Hoyer with her. Hoyer's district is fairly conservative with a lot of veteran and military retirees. I hope this comes back to haunt him.

Barbara Lee is a bigot and an idiot as anyone who watched the impeachment hearings knows from first hand observation. That a bigot and an idiot would also be a liberal Democrat should come as no surprise.

Neither would the fact that a bigoted, idotic, liberal Democrat might lack the patriotism that most of us share.

But we might be just a little surprised that someone like this should also be a traitor at heart. --- NOT!

.....in the end she had to "rely on my moral compass, my conscience and my God for direction."

"Our deepest fears now haunt us," she said. "Yet, I am convinced that military action will not prevent further acts of international terrorism against the United States."

I am not convinced that Police action against murderers will prevent further acts of murder against American citizens. So I suppose I should vote against hunting down murderers and those who assist them...
I must "rely on my moral compass, my conscience and my God for direction."

Mega barf to the max! Who votes these mindless flakes into office?

I am a vet from the gulf war who worked in intell and I have this to say and for all of you to think about. I am hearing as we all have lately alot of talk about restraint and making sure we know for sure who did this terrible act. We know who did it, we know who has been threatning us of this kind of act, we know Osama Bin Laden was in charge of the first bombing on the world trade center, we know he has been responsible for over 70 percent of terrorism worldwide, we know afghanastan has protected him from the countries he attacks. Bin Laden said it best himself after he bombed our marine barracks...America has become a paper tiger and we will fear them no longer. The time has come for action. If Afghanastan won't turn him over then we take him by force or destroy him in the process. If nothing else...we would elimate some of his followers, camps, ect... If he surfaces again we will go after him again and again untill we get him. Don't let the soft words of restraint and compassion divert us for what needs to happen. This is the time for our country to be strong and show these groups they will not be allowed to terrorise us any longer.

She should be taken to New York an dbe made to sort thru body parts to try to find which hand matches which arm, etc. for a few days. Let's see if she thinks we ought to try appeasement after that duty.

The only honest Democrat in the house. She's wrong but at least she stood up, which is more than I can say for the weak-kneed, yellow bellied liberals who agree with her but didn't. Maybee she's stupid and didn't realize she was comitting political suicide unlike the rest.

"Anguish" my ass. Kongresswoman Lee is just a media whore. The way she has exploited the deaths of 5000 Americans just to give herself publicity is despicable.

What they don't say is that Ron "Red" Dellums was in the seat before her; that she worked for Red and he basically appointed her to the seat.

That during the invasion of Grenada, someone from Red's office called Grenada and let them know that Marines were on the way - which meant that US forces had much more opposition than expected.

All of which makes me wonder --- WHY SHOULD THE REDZONE's CHILDREN DIE DEFENDING THE BLUE ZONERs?

And the congresscritters wonder why Pres. Bush isn't telling them anything. I am so ANGRY at these people for letting us get in this mess to begin with. Where the hell have they all been for the last 20-40 years? Most of them have almost been there that long. I hope they keep their mouths shut before I put my foot in it for them. They have no right to complain about anything Pres. Bush does to stop terrorism. They sure as hell haven't done anything after all these years.

Bipartisan is only for someone who doesn't belive in anything.

"...was the only House member in 1999 to oppose Clinton's use of troops in Kosovo..."

Interesting.

It's not Afghanistan, it's the Taliban. The Taliban are not the recognized government of Afghanistan - there is still a civil war raging. It's just that the Taliban have managed to usurp power for the time being.

Also, I saw a credible analyst this morning that said the scope of this attack was too large for Bin Laden alone. There are clues (such as the red headbands worn by the hijackers on United 93) that point to other terrorist cells as well. In the case of the red headbands, this is uniquely Shiite Muslims. Bin Laden is Sunni.

I don't know how to answer that. I live about 7 miles from the edge of Lee's District and took my kids today to their soccer game right in the middle of the 'hood in Oakland. The 'Rats are in this with us, whether we like it or not. BTW, don't the inner city blue zoners make up quite a bit of the enlisted armed forces?

Saddam is in this up to his ears. All of the obvious signs that they left pointing to OBL are really just signs designed to point away from Saddam.
