USA Today Ends Larry King's Column
By ANANDA SHOREY, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) - Larry King is losing his spot as a USA Today ``People'' page columnist.
``Larry King has been in the paper for a very long time,'' said Steven Anderson, a spokesman for the newspaper. ``But we want the news to be trendier, newsier and to have greater impact than it has now.''
Anderson said Tuesday the paper's People page will be redesigned this month, with its columnists replaced by celebrity interviews and news of fashion and events.
King, host of ``Larry King Live'' on CNN, has been writing for USA Today since 1982. He also has made appearances in movies including ``Ghostbusters,'' ``The Contender'' and this summer's ``America's Sweethearts'' as well as TV shows.
``For more than 20 years, I have loved writing my column for USA Today and I will dearly miss my loyal readers,'' King said in a statement. ``But with my show now on seven days a week, a new book coming out this fall and many projects in the works, the timing is right and it's for the best.''

Such a shame!
It would seem Larry is thought of as passe. Much like the media, he works for, thinks about our Constitution and Founding Fathers.
R.I.P. shill.

Have you ever read this column? Its often filled with plugs for people who have given him free stuff. I'm surprised it lasted this long.

NO ONE who has any inkling of journalistic standards can say that what King wrote was a "column." We are losing our language, people.

``But we want the news to be trendier, newsier and to have greater impact than it has now.'' Hmmmm. Just exactly what DOES constitute "trendier, newsier" news? Why not hire Stan Lee to draw the entire thing as a comic? It's halfway there already.

NO ONE who has any inkling of journalistic standards can say that what King wrote was a "column." We are losing our language, people. Not being familiar with his placement in the paper, I don't know whether it's more accurate to say he had a "column" or a "multi-column text block". The important thing to note is that text processing has made it possible to right-justify any idea, even those for which no other justification would be possible.

"Larry King Live"?....I don't think so. The death watch has commenced. His recent lame interviews have hastened the process. He will be replaced by the ever-trendy Woody Allen.

Now if CNN would only kill his tv "show" we would all be spared the inane babble that mirrored his inane scribblings. How many Imus interviews do we really need?
