Ever since October 7, we’ve gotten a steady stream of reminders of just how different life in Israel can be from the rest of the West. No matter how European the architecture or how Americanized its politics have become, Israel’s experience has always been different from that of its allies in crucial ways.
For example, the renewed fighting in Gaza’s north is the subject of this lead from the Wall Street Journal: “Seven months into the war, Hamas is far from defeated, stoking fears in Israel that it is walking into a forever war.”
This is a very Western, and indeed American, way of looking at it. Because when you live far from the war zone, as in the case of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, you always fear walking into a trap. But Israel isn’t walking into anything—in fact, Israel tried walking away from Gaza. Not just in its 2005 disengagement, although that move did end once and for all any notion of an Israeli “occupation” in Gaza. Israel, in fact, tried walking away in 1967—that is, immediately upon taking and holding the territory in a defensive war. The Arab states Israel had defeated met in Khartoum and released a famous resolution declaring the “three noes”: No peace with Israel, no recognition of Israel, no negotiation with Israel.

Which brings us to the second point: This is already a forever war. And that forever war was declared by Israel’s enemies and is re-declared each time Israel offers to end it. Hamas’s raison d’etre, in fact, is forever war. You can find this out by doing such things as: asking them; reading their statements; reading their essential documents; watching their interviews; opening your eyes; etc.
....
Israel is not “walking into a forever war.” It has spent its 76 years as a state trying to get out of a forever war imposed on it by the enemies of its existence, some of whom, such as the Hamas leaders and soldiers involved in the October 7 attacks, are barbarian war zombies who have no other setting.
If you want to end the forever war against Hamas, you must destroy Hamas.
Didn’t Commenntary merge with Dissent?
Dissentary
The powers to be want this to be a forever war. They decided the borders to be such, and even with the Sykes-Picot Agreement that set the borders they intended for Israel to be partitioned. This guaranteed a forever war, which was the intent. Now, ISRAEL must claim its ancestral borders and disregard the Nations intentions and secure them. This is inevitable, if you believe the Bible. The sooner that the Israelis do that, the more lives will be saved. That is why the world wants Israel to go back to the original partition - so that they can preserve the instability.
Closer to 1400 years into the war.
More than 3000 years actually.
Samson vs the Philistines of Gaza was 1000 BC.
Don’t forget David and Goliath.
Great analysis! 👍 Many good points. The one I'm quoting above reminds me that the Deep State wants this war fought like America fights wars: gloves off, eternal, dragging on and on, never a final resolution. Pretty much every American war after WWII.
The Deep State pressed for the escalation of the Viet Nam war. When John Kennedy had other plans … well … you know what happened: Eternal War. The Viet Nam war never ended. It just moved to a new location.
Ha. Great Woody Allen line.
Forever War novelist Joe Haldeman was a Viet War veteran.
The Military Industrial Complex hates the idea that one side might ever actually “win” a war. That would really cut into sales.
Samson was prior to David.
That is what reminds me of this. I participated in the Vietnam Conflict..War is a misnomer. Even though we lost 58,000, it was not fought like a war.

The war between Israel and Islam will last forever as long as America exists simply because it is a war between Islam and America and Israel is but the first domino that must fall while America is the last to tumble. Islam is now in the process of fighting Israel and America, simultaneously and Islam is winning.(no American flag in Gaza but plenty of Palestinian flags flying in America) The war we’re observing now is one between America and Islam and not Israel and Islam. We are living in pre-Pearl Harbor days while Islam planes are zooming in and we will recognize them too late as we did in 1941. The shout of “Tora, Tora, Tora” is peplaced with “Alahu Akbar” and our response is that Islam is a religion of Peace. Sheesh.
It’s only a war of both sides are fighting against each other. Right now, and for quite a while, America has been completely asleep at the switch. We (meaning the DS that controls our government ) are not fighting anybody, except our own citizens. We haven’t fought a war to win it since before the first baby boomer was born. Even then, we (the DS of the day) quite purposely left another war remaining on the horizon by allowing the Soviet Union to continue to exist, and therefore enslave all of Eastern Europe.
If this country would ever actually wake the hell up, we could once again be a great nation. Not so with the DS scumbags in charge.
That’s right out of an old Star Trek episode, in which Kirk decided to end the stalemate by forcing real deaths. Israel, as usual, is doing the logical thing by doing the same thing...you want war, you get death. Real death. Visible death. And in doing so, they help all of us, by showing that the religion of hate is also the religion of death. (Note: For history illiterate leftists, the religion of death is NOT Judaism...think camels, sheep, and pure hate.)
Nice try at trying to blend US and Israel interests together.
We aren’t surrounded by Muslim countries like Israel is.
Big difference.
That pier. A good place to dump off all the illegals. You know the middle eastern military age types.

Works for me.
Keep them over there, where they are easier to fight with overwhelming firepower.

No, we’re not surrounded.
They are already thoroughly spread out within our walls an more are coming in every day.
