In war-battered Gaza, residents grow angry with Hamas

More than six months into the war in Gaza and with dimming hopes for a cease-fire deal, Palestinians there are growing more critical of Hamas, which some of them blame for the months-long conflict that has destroyed the territory — and their lives.

The war has displaced most of the Gaza Strip’s population, killed tens of thousands of people and pushed the enclave toward famine, its infrastructure in ruins. The Israeli military waged a punishing campaign to eliminate Hamas after the group, which ruled Gaza for 17 years, attacked Israel on Oct. 7, killing an estimated 1,200 people and abducting more than 250.

But while the majority of Palestinians in Gaza blame Israel for their suffering, according to polling conducted in March, they also appear to be turning their ire toward the militants. In interviews with more than a dozen residents of Gaza, people said they resent Hamas for the attacks in Israel and — war-weary and desperate to fulfill their basic needs — just want to see peace as soon as possible.

If Hamas wanted to start a war, “they should have secured people first — secured a place of refuge for them, not thrown them into suffering that no one can bear,” said Salma El-Qadomi, 33, a freelance journalist who has been displaced 11 times since the conflict started.

Palestinians want leaders “who won’t drag people into a war like this,” she said. “Almost everyone around me shares the same thoughts: We want this waterfall of blood to stop. Seventeen years of destruction and wars are enough.”

Hamas, an Islamist political and military movement, was founded in 1987 during the first Palestinian uprising. It staged some of the deadliest attacks on Israeli civilians and later won Palestinian legislative elections.

The still support Hamas, just didn’t want to suffer for it.

Hamas is to Gaza what the Democrat Party is to cities on the northeast, west and Great Lakes coasts. They may resent the suffering, but they will get voted back into office.

The Gazans could hunt down and exterminate Hamas overnight if they really wanted to. But they won’t, because they really don’t.

Maybe at the next election they can vote out Hamas.

Not angry enough to do anything about it though. Each day they remain silent, is another day they condone what Hamas does. These people will never get any sympathy from me. They live among the terrorists. They know who they are, and what they do, and they remain silent, which means they approve of it.

It's no different than the people who live in crime-ridden black communities. They want the police to clean up their neighborhoods, but will not cooperate with the police when it comes to providing information. They know who the criminals are. They know where they live. But they refuse to get involved. I have no sympathy for them either.

So rather than kick the Hammie’s asses, they’ll all sneak into America like a swarm of cicadas.

Agree with you and also Post #3...

“”desperate to fulfill their basic needs””

It was their basic needs and other promises that the people voted for to let Hamas run everything. They’ll return to that in the end - their hate is too strong to do anything different.

"Snitches get stitches". So it's usually the smart thing to do is just to stay out of it if it does not involve you.

Not a really bright group of people. Inbreeding does that.

I have seen this kind of story produced a couple of other times by the Leftstream media. There may be a few Palies grumbling about the problems being in a war zone, but they and the rest still want Israel and all Jews dead.

AP last year after Oct.7, 2023 Palestinian poll shows a rise in Hamas support and close to 90%
Dec 13, 2023

The alleged 12% drop in Hamas support in another poll does not make any difference.

PLO, Hamas and Hezbollah do what they want regardless of the popularity. It’s not a political election poll or popular music stars——they are ruthless terrorists.

Not “new uniforms a hit with Gazans as Hamas adopts two tone
motif.”

Why not? It's often been documented Hamas has been stealing aid, food and supplies since they began this war. Are the Palis suffering? Thank a terrorist.

I'm amazed that 77% of Jews and 70% of Asians voted for Joe Biden last election.
