If I’m not mistaken, all of the states that have agreed to the ‘compact’ are controlled by democrats. Were a Republican to win the national popular vote, but not the traditional EC vote, you can take it to the bank that one or more of the states involved would quickly vote to change their law.
Regardless of the fact that the ‘compact’ violates the spirit of the Constitutional method of electing Presidents, consider that some/several democrat states (cough, cough, California) often take weeks to actually count their votes.
One example of where a "compact" *has* been approved by Congress if the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.The two states jointly control bridges,tunnels and airports located in both states through it.
Also there’s an equal protection argument too.
What the RATS in Maine’s 1st Congressional District would like to do is say FU to the pro-Trump 2nd district.
There will be an uproar here in Maine if these left-wing a**holes try to pull this crap.
If I had my way the 1st District would be given back to Assachusetts.
So goes Maine…. The point is who cares if Maine wants to link its actions to Nebraska? Nebraska should move ahead regardless.
The people of Maine’s Second Congressional District will care.
We will be robbed of our one electoral vote if these demon rats try to do this. Trump carried this district by 10 points in 2016 and 9 points in 2020.
I’ve heard no one here in Maine discuss this “issue.”
The first I learned of it was a “crawl” on the bottom of the
screen while I was watching Steve Bannon’s War Room.
Only two states don’t allocate their electoral votes by winner take all, i.,e., Nebraska and Maine. Any change is up to each state and their legislatures and governors.
The Dems in Maine are trying to influence the vote in Nebraska by threatening to change the current allocation in Maine. Do they have the votes in Maine to do so? I don’t know, but Nebraska should proceed regardless.
The Maine legislature is part time.
It adjourned about a week ago and does not reconvene until next January.
The governor can call a special session if she wants to, but I doubt if she has any interest in kicking over a hornet’s nest.
