Tucker Carlson vs. Ben Shapiro: The Great Debate on “America First” Foreign Policy
AMP America ^ | 04/23/2024 | Brian Nichols

Posted on 04/25/2024 4:04:57 AM PDT by Sir_Humphrey

As someone who values liberty and limited government, I’ve always been skeptical of unchecked federal power – especially when it comes to matters of war and peace. The Founders warned us about the dangers of standing armies and entangling alliances, and history has shown time and again the perils of a trigger-happy foreign policy.

Yet for decades now, the American people have been fed a steady diet of interventionism from the Washington establishment. We’re told that the United States must be the world’s policeman – that we have a moral obligation to spread democracy at the point of a gun, and that any skepticism of military action is tantamount to “anti-Americanism.”

The results of this misguided consensus are plain to see: a string of costly and inconclusive wars, from Vietnam to Iraq to Afghanistan, that have sapped American strength and undermined our security. Trillions of dollars wasted, thousands of lives lost, and our nation’s reputation tarnished on the world stage.

A very interesting read on the 2 schools of thought within the conservative movement as it pertains to the use of military force.

Also, I recently discovered this site and now it's part of my "morning reads".

Perhaps most troubling is Shapiro’s seeming belief that any skepticism of American military intervention abroad is tantamount to anti-Americanism and a “blood guilt” view of our nation’s soul. This is not only an unfair smear, but actively dangerous rhetoric.

The author calls Shapiro’s stance “troubling.”

I consider it both comical and pathetic, considering it’s being promoted by an insufferable, effete dweeb who would convert to Islam before he’d ever wear a U.S. military uniform himself.

Sure, personal attacks will always advance the argument. I mean who needs facts and logic these days.

If America is first, that means (by definition) other interests are secondary instead of primary. I think that Ben’s side of this debate has already lost.

“a string of costly and inconclusive wars, from Vietnam to Iraq to Afghanistan, that have sapped American strength and undermined our security.

Yet the biggest war in our lifetimes is battling our own feds and that doesn’t cost anything, it’s just the will to do so.

Aren’t personal attacks on political and media figures a defining feature of an online political forum? LOL.

In these times I suppose you are correct.

I agree wholeheartedly with America first. But the next question is which America? The transgender child grooming, DEI white hating, antichristian, fraudulent election, two justice system one? Or the old one?

Shapiro has publicly stated that he is pro-America because America supports Israel and that a strong America means a strong Israel.

He views our children as his cannon fodder.

Rather, wars are costly, and the reason for inconclusive wars has been due to lack of political will, while the strict isolationist position is a delusion if one expects to engage in free trade. In isolationism, the US should not be opposing the regulation of trade routes (S. China sea, strait of Hormuz, etc.) and the take over of the Philippines by China etc.

The only problem is that America has not been attacked and seen tens of thousands of citizens tortured. Killed and held hostage. I support the destruction of Hamas and other jihadists. Ukraine, I am done. I loathe all the pols who voted for the fleecing of our children’s economic future.

Shapiro is an arrogant f’in Yankee that continually criticizes the South. His arrogance and ignorance has permanently turned me off his program indefinitely. I find his snot nosed arrogance coupled with ignorance repugnant.

Shapiro is a better debater but his nasaly voice is impossible to bear. Trump “loather” Tucker is a complete fraud. Currently in his 4th incarnation, bought and paid for by his Muslim financier to bash Israel and promote Hamas. Sad times.

In these times I suppose you are correct.

In "these" times?

Ad hominems and mud-slinging of political/media figures is as old as the Founding Fathers: "The bitterness and rivalries seen in the partisan 1796 campaign got worse in the 1800 rematch between Adams and Jefferson. At one point in that race, Jefferson’s supporter, notorious pamphleteer James Calendar, claimed that Adams was a hermaphrodite, while Adams’ people said Jefferson would openly promote prostitution, incest, and adultery."
