Boston police failed to arrest 'serial rapist' for years despite DNA evidence

It started off like countless other Uber rides in downtown Boston.

A group of friends piled into a car after hanging out at a bar. Then, they started arguing. Most of the friends got out at their hotel, and the man offered to drive the remaining rider around to "collect herself."

But when the woman asked the driver to drop her back off at the hotel, he refused.

Instead, he took her to his apartment in Dorchester that Saturday in July 2016 and sexually assaulted her, police alleged in court records.

A DNA test identified the suspect as Alvin Campbell Jr., a burly 43-year-old with a long criminal history and a prominent relative. Campbell is the brother of Andrea Campbell, then a Boston city councilor and now the state’s attorney general.

Despite the DNA evidence, Alvin Campbell was never arrested or charged in connection with the encounter. And police never alerted the public.

Over the next two years, a WBUR investigation found, three more women shared similar stories with police about a man who assaulted them after offering them rides at Boston bars. In each case, DNA and other evidence pointed to Alvin Campbell, according to an application for a search warrant obtained by WBUR. And each time, authorities decided not to detain him or seek criminal charges.

Boston police finally arrested Campbell in early 2020 after a fifth woman reported she was raped. At that point, investigators made a horrifying discovery. They found evidence on his phone indicating he had sexually assaulted at least 10 additional women since the first incident in 2016.

According to the article the problem is how society treats sexual assault. The sister who was city councilor and now attorney general has nothing to do with it. It’s the inherent misogyny and not democrat political corruption of course.

“Campbell is the brother of Andrea Campbell, then a Boston city councilor and now the state’s attorney general.”

Gosh, why he got away with it for so long and in Massachusetts of all places...it’s a mystery!

I guess the lesson is that if you plan to launch a career in crime, be sure you have established your Democrat bona fides first.

More horrifying is they knew this and did nothing.

It’s both political and racial. No misogyny required.

These were women who drank too much and went home from bars, alone.

I have never understood why anyone gets themselves drunk.

they are looking for mates- drinking helps to calm the nerves and helps the person be more sociable- but yeah, gettign sloshed isn’t the answer- I don’t drink, and just deal with my social awkwardness with the attitude of “Meh- whatever, it’s nap time anyways” if i don’t connect with folks I’m introduced to-

The alleged serial rapist

Here is the search warrant:

Some takeaways from the search warrant
The victims were usually highly intoxicated
The warrant requests the extensive information that was stored on or emanated from the perpetrator's Apple iPhone.
The police moved at glacial speed in taking the serial rapist off of the street https://media.wbur.org/wp/2024/04/police-affidavit-2.pdf

I remember a few years ago a woman got drunk in bar in town and ended up getting killed by a bouncer that offered to take her home. Someone on local radio said something to the effect of “Remember,ladies....nothing good happens in a bar after midnight!” Some raving feminazi blasted him for “denying women the right to go to bars!” She was more angry at him than at the guy who actually killed the woman. Agenda trumps reason with these people EVERY time! THAT’S how we keep getting Liz Warren,Ed Markey, and Maura Healey voted into office over and over.

It may be true in other parts of the country but it’s certainly true here in the Gay State (Massachusetts) that it’s nice to have friends in high places...and it’s even nicer to have *relatives* in high places.

A lot like the Brothers Bulger. The only reason Billy didn't go to Federal prison like his brother is because of his deep ties to Rat Party Headquarters...and his law school degree.
