Where I am in Western PA, most GOP candidates are running unopposed, so there are no exciting races.

A few nasty ‘rat fights here, though. Left-wing democrats vs slightly less crazy ones; all candidates touting their pro-abort credentials, as they are the party of death, you know.

Sounds very much like you’re talking about the battle in CD-12 (my district, unfortunately) between racist, terrorist-supporting Summer Lee and racist slightly-less-terrorist-supporting Democrat Bhavini Patel.

I generally avoid the local liberal media as much as I avoid the national liberal media, but Lee doesn’t seem to be campaigning much at all while her equally hate-filled challenger is at least somewhat on the air.

Since no Republican is winning this gerrymandered district in November, the determination as to who the future congressman here will be comes down to a choice today between a 100% liberal nutjob racist vs. a 99% liberal nutjob racist.

Yes, that’s one of the races I was referring to. Sad that a Republican doesn’t even have a chance in that district.

There’s the very slightest of possibilities that this divisive (not really) Democrat primary could have a beneficial effect on Republican chances here.

I called this many months ago when Lee showed her antisemite stripes; CD-12 has a substantial Jewish community which DID swing to the right in November of 2023 in the local Allegheny County elections even though Lee herself had nothing to do with it directly. That community’s financial weight is far more substantial than its voting weight, but there’s no evidence that they are suddenly steering their “geld” to the GOP.

The 2023 elections *might* have been, to some extent, a foreshadowing regarding what happens this year in CD-12. If Lee wins today, November will probably be closer than many expect but whatever hope today’s outcome generates (if any) is highly likely to be false hope. Democrats still outnumber Republicans here by more than a 2:1 ratio and the November outcome would be something around 55-45 again.

I sure hope you're wrong. James Hayes is a seriously impressive candidate. We'll be doing what we can for him, even though we're not in the District. (We're just northeast).

He comes off as somewhat conservative and by no means a bomb-thrower (a la Gaetz, MTG, Boebert -- and I LOVE those guys & gals) -- which in CD-12 is probably good, since he would need a large percentage of Democrat votes to win a general election. A 100% conservative has a 0% chance here, but Hayes would be plenty good enough.

He has one gigantic problem however, one which is just as damaging as the heavily-Democrat makeup of the district, and that problem is illustrated here:

FEC financial reports for PA District 12

As things stand now, he's lucky to be able to afford a few yard signs. In a district like this which isn't even considered to be slightly marginal, the national GOP with its limited funds isn't likely to make anything more than the smallest token effort on his behalf.

Now if Lee wins the primary today AND if subsequent polls quickly start showing that she's weaker than expected for November, that might be a different story. It's still quite a long shot.

I’m in Westmoreland County, so yeah. A note about voting today. The system wasn’t very responsive. Noticeable lag between touching the touchscreen location and it changing color to indicate being selected.

I reported it.

Anyone else have anything similar?

14.7% in-person turnout in my solidly red York County district.

Write in votes were interesting: A couple of Democrats wrote in Donald Trump for President and a couple of others “uncommitted”; the anti Trump GOP write-in were one each for Mike Pence and Chris Christie and two for Ron Desantis.
