Well well, it takes the fear of Trump to get these EU grifters to beef up their own defense. Something they should have been doing for years instead of spending on the nanny state. I have no pity for any of these governments and they only fear the russians, who are a long way from invading them, to the point of still wanting to do trade with them and doing it in spite of the stupid sanctions.

Exactly! I can remember one American president after another from Reagan all the way through Obama begging, pleading and cajoling the Yurps to grow up and actually provide for their own defense - at least a little bit - for over 35 years. It all fell on deaf ears. The Yurps would just roll their eyes and continue to lavish money on socialism all while freeloading off of Uncle Sugar to provide for their defense for them.

The American people finally got tired of being saps and decided to elect Trump who told European leaders their free ride on the gravy train was over. Suddenly, they started actually getting serious about providing for their own defense for a change. Viola! Magic!

The best thing America could do would be to pull far more troops out of Germany and make it clear to the Europeans that NATO is supposed to be an alliance, not a subsidy to socialism at home.

If we left NATO under a future Trump presidency they would either HAVE to fully fund it themselves by cutting their much bragged about social welfare cradle to grave states or become weak on their own and ripe for takeovers. Their choice.

Of course there’s not the slightest care about negotiating a ceasefire or armistice. The Economist is all in for endless war, and for endless death.

Feel free to explain how allowing our enemy, a totalitarian Putin to invade and subjugate a neighboring country is beneficial to long term US interests.

___________________________________________________

Spare us the totalitarian hyperbole. The only people who CAN’T see that we have no business there are imperialists, the same people who have filled our VA hospitals with the physically and mentally maimed. Oh, and also enriched the absolute lowest and most base members of our society.

God willing, the US people will eventually realize just how people like you have used our sons and daughters for generations in order to “expand US interests”.

And as for Johnson, wow, you must be a real lowlife to quote that bought-and-paid-for corporate whore. Anyone who argues that US lives should be spent in this conflict deserves all the contempt and misfortune that can be heaped upon them.

The only people I want to see perishing in Ukraine are people like you. Maybe you could round up some more of the chickenhawks on this website and take them with you.

Europe doesn’t have enough guns to put one in the hands of each conscript.

I suspect a time is coming when those who pushed and supported this Ukraine bs are going to be hiding their flags and trying to cover/erase their history of supporting this

And Taiwan? NATO?

Helping the enemy of our enemy makes sense.

No, it is not the Military Industrial complex. Major European are very concerned about Russia as we ought to be as well. No other major country has a recent record of invading other countries in wars of conquest as does Russia. This is a thing we thought we was in the past. Russia is clearly dangerous and predatory in the night and the rest of the world has every right to be concerned including us.

Compulsion is being considered because many rich countries struggle to recruit enough people for their all-volunteer professional forces.

What? People in other countries don't want to die for their corrupt selfish 'elites' while their countries are being overrun by 'third world migrants'? The same third world migrants the 'elites' want for their new servant class?

Well, knock me over with a feather... What's next, are Europe's elites putting sexual weirdos in charge of their military too?
