Wayne County is rolling out a new round of funding to assist landlords with small-scale properties in meeting federal housing standards.
The initiative, explained by County Economic Development Director Brian Pincelli, is a collaboration between the county, The Housing Council at PathStone, and both the Newark and Geneva Housing Authorities.
This effort aims to support landlords who manage fewer than 15 units in upgrading their properties to comply with Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program inspections and health and safety regulations. The program was designed in response to a 2021 affordable housing study that highlighted the necessity for maintaining affordable housing and increasing Section 8 accommodations in the county.
After a successful first funding round of $225,000 from Enterprise Community Partners in 2022, this second phase introduces $245,000 to continue property improvements.
I do NOT want to increase the Section 8 population there. Every S8 applicant has had TERRIBLE previous landlord references. They can't get past my scrupulous screening methods (credit score, 3X--their share of the rent-- monthly, in home visit, etc)
You’ll be sorry……
Will these loans get “forgiven”?
Yeah they’ll be sorry. I won’t rent to a less than stellar market rate tenant. Not even in C class. And believe me they are extremely hard to find.
I meant the article, of course, not you personally. I own three rental properties and have heard nothing but horror stories from others who made that Section 8 deal with the devil.
They’ve got to increase the Section 8 housing stock exponentially to house all the hundreds of thousands of recent invaders from Venezuela, China, Africa, etc.
Welcome to the neighborhood, right?
The problem is also when Section 8 is moved in near where you and/or your rentals are - object? You are a racist.
This happened to one of our rental homes which was in a very nice area near great schools - a housing group came in to a nearby apartment complex and brought in Section 8 - the long time tenants informed us that they were leaving - they complained of constant sirens at all hours of the night and day - and overhead police helicopters along with an increase in crime in nearby businesses. Who would want to rent in such an area?
We were able to sell the property, fortunately, before the entire area and schools became too degraded.
