Left in mid 80’s. Still some good areas then. Milw had a Socialist mayor more recently than a Republican.

My Aunt Ruth, in her late 70’s, was the last holdout to live in Milwaukee, and that was only due to health problems. She’s still in Milwaukee but at a St. Luke’s nursing facility where she’s safe (relatively!) and we don’t need to worry about her as much. She signs up for any and ALL activities. I think she’s re-living her youth. We’re so glad that she’s doing so well.

There’s a LOT about Milwaukee that I miss. It was actually a great place to grow up in the 60’s. Schools were still good, we weren’t being shot at EVERY day and I had Uncles who were either Cops, Firemen or worked for Miller Brewing. Good, SOLID people.

I’ve been back to my old neighborhood through the years for one thing or another. A neighborhood that used to be all Eastern European is now all Hispanic - but they’re keeping the place looking good, it’s not all run down, so there’s that. ;)
