I thought most American Hispanics who live in New Mexico are very much against illegal immigration. Has that changed? Many of them were descendants from when New Mexico was admitted into statehood and many others came in legally. Are illegals a majority in New Mexico now?

What has changed is that the Democrats in Santa Fe and Albuquerque have dominated the party with their radical left wing ideas that downplay individual rights in favor of big government nanny state regulations. They are under control of the big public service unions (teachers and government) which believe illegal immigration from other countries is a “human right.” The same mindset supports their climate change agenda which says us non-elites must sacrifice our way of living to protect the planet. They spend millions on education but NM is 50 out of 50 on that and most other livable scales. They have one advantage that most states don’t - billions in oil and gas revenue they can spread around (50% of the state’s general fund) but don’t reduce business taxes and keep tightening the noose on the golden goose that provides the free money.
