JERUSALEM, April 7 (Reuters) - The Israeli military has withdrawn all ground troops from the southern Gaza Strip except for one brigade, a military spokesperson said on Sunday.
The military did not immediately provide further details. It was unclear whether the withdrawal would delay a long-threatened incursion into the southern Gaza city of Rafah, which Israeli leaders have said is needed to eliminate Hamas.
The withdrawal comes as Egypt prepares to host a new round of talks aimed at reaching a ceasefire and hostage release deal
Are you telling us Hamas is now completely destroyed? That was the only successful end to this according Netanyahu. 32,000 dead civilians was the sacrifice to be paid to never have to deal with Hamas again. The brutal incursion into Gaza has been an unmitigated failure for Israel. Hamas is stronger today than on 10/7. Sure, some fighters have been killed and some equipment lost but Hamas’ viability has been ensured for the next two generations. The citizens of Gaza despise (for very good reason) the Israelis more than ever. Israel has lost most of the support it had in the world prior to 10/7. Israel can indiscriminately kill civilians as well as anyone but can’t defeat a bunch of ill equipped, ill trained irregular fighters. What a CF from day one.
It means that the topmost Hamas leadership has escaped from Gaza.
It means that there will be no release of hostages that are still imprisoned in the tunnel labyrinth.
