Report: Fossil Fuel Lobby Cashes in on Biden’s $7.5 Billion for EV Chargers
Breitbart ^ | 04/05/2024 | JOEL B. POLLAK

Posted on 04/05/2024 7:10:06 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

The fossil fuel industry is cashing in on the $7.5 billion for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations that President Joe Biden approved in the Inflation Reduction Act, lobbying to have the stations built at existing gas station locations.

Politico‘s Energy & Environment News reported:

More than half of the charging stations being built so far from the 2021 bipartisan infrastructure law are rising at truck stops and gasoline stations, according to data exclusively provided to E&E News by EVAdoption, an EV data consultancy. In essence, the law’s $7.5 billion pot for charging is reinforcing the very fossil-fuel infrastructure that the EV era would seem to consign to oblivion.

Service stations have an upper hand in this first wave of subsidies because they occupy the very real estate where the federal government wants to build a charging backbone: at 50-mile intervals along the interstates and no more than a mile from highway exits.

But that’s not the only reason. Behind the scenes, service-station industry lobbyists have been working to tilt the rules to their advantage.

Environmental groups are not criticizing the fossil fuel industry for lobbying for their share of the cash, because they are happy to see the EV stations built — though none were built by the end of 2023, and few have been built since.

And you could generate the electricity right there with the 30000 gal of diesel on location. Throw in a few token solar panels for looks

Poor EV drives. Most of them would hate to charge at a smelly offensive gas station. LOL

As say that because most of my fellow EV owners are part of the warmageddon cult and think they're part of the class of people who cares and yada yada.

Until the federal government invokes the right of eminent domain.

Why do taxpayers have to pay for EV gas stations?

Pretty smart wouldn’t you say? It’s like republicans working within the uniparty.

Think tobacco companies patiently waiting for marijuana legalization.

Actually, there are a lot of people like myself who just like driving EVs because of the new technology. Nothing new with gas powered vehicles in say what, the last 100 years? For a similar reason I never owned an Apple computer. You could never upgrade them. I liked upgrading my computer every year with the newest CPU, hard drive or graphics card. EV batteries will get more efficient and there will be faster charging in the future. My main concern is with the electric grid. The government doesn’t seem to be planning for that.

I, too, like driving our EV. Though I got it mainly because I like being more energy self-reliant (home solar used for both the house and charging the EV). And I've met a few who got one for the zippy acceleration and the convenience of charging at home.

But most of the EV owners I meet at the road-side chargers on trips thank me for saving the world and such. I tell them I don't fear the Modern Warm Period, and in fact I'm glad I live in one of the warm periods instead of one of the cooling periods. LOL

Do you shut down the power plants before or after you force everyone into EVs?

I read the same thing. Only seven charging stations have been built so far. A whole lot of people are making big money off of the corrupt Biden Administration.

EV chargers should be required to run on windmills and solar panels.

As the forced electrification process continues, there will be more need for the traditional truck stop amenities, not less, as EV owners find themselves spending more time waiting in line for a charge.

I just saw two Shell branded two gun chargers in Addison Texas today at the destination nightlife area so yes the oil companies are in fact energy companies they sell energy for profit they don’t care if it is liquid or electrons. There is also a wall of Tesla superchargers at that location and EVGO and Blink as well. No less than 30 spots all of them are in use according to the charge finder app. So those ccompanies are making $$$$ tonight.
