How Justice Thomas’s ‘Nearly Adopted Daughter’ Became His Law Clerk {Crystal Clanton }
New York Times ^ | 28th March 2024 | Steve Eder, Abbie VanSickle

Posted on 03/28/2024 8:19:58 AM PDT by Cronos

“Crystal Clanton’s clerkship for OT ’24 was announced by Scalia Law today!”...

The Thomases and Ms. Clanton, a 29-year-old conservative organizer turned lawyer, have built such a close relationship that the couple informally refer to her as their “nearly adopted daughter.” Ms. Clanton, who was previously accused of sending racist text messages, including one that read “I HATE BLACK PEOPLE,” has lived in the Thomas home, assisted Ms. Thomas in her political consulting business and joined her in a “girls trip” to New York.

In 2019, at the Thomases’ urging, Ms. Clanton enrolled at Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University in Virginia, where Justice Thomas has taught. She received a full merit scholarship, according to another judge who later hired her.

Her upcoming Supreme Court clerkship, one of the most coveted jobs in the American legal profession, is the latest triumph in her redemption from a highly publicized 2017 controversy over the racist messages. The blowup led to her departure from a group she helped build, Turning Point USA, which seeks to increase the influence of conservative students on college campuses across the country.

...

“It seems clear that Justice Thomas acted improperly in hiring someone to whom he is so close that he describes her as something akin to a family member,” said Kathleen Clark, a legal ethics expert at Washington University in St. Louis. “While this hiring probably does not violate the nepotism statutes, it is the type of ‘favoritism’ prohibited by the code.”

They hate Mr. Justice Clarence Thomas with a burning white-hot passion because he isn’t their slave.

For contrast, they love Mizzz Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson for her utter servile obedience to all things leftist ...

Mizz Brown Jackson knows perfectly well what a woman is ... she’s one herself ... but pusillanimously made an absolute fool of herself in front of the Senate rather than upset the current leftist agenda.

Judges interview and pick their own law clerks and it is perfectly common for them to pick friends of their family or the children of their friends.

And no, saying that someone is almost like your daughter doesn’t count as nepotism.

For some supposed attorney to state that this violates even the spirit of some ethics rule is absolutely outrageous.

I don’t believe on word of the accusation.

It was a smear and one reported by the same NY Times, that defended Hitler as a great leader while he was busy murdering Jews and anyone who didn’t fall in line during the 30’s and through out WWII.

She graduated from GMU Law? Not Harvard or Yale? Sounds like a bit of elitism showing through.

Ms. Clanton, who was previously accused of sending racist text messages, including one that read “I HATE BLACK PEOPLE,...”

So the NYT has no evidence other than an anonymous accusation.

Back to their sleazy "RUSSIA COLLUSION" anonymously sourced SOP.

The controversy over Clanton's hiring stemmed from her time as the national field director for the conservative student group Turning Point USA.

In a New Yorker magazine story in 2017 examining the group, journalist Jane Mayer reported that Clanton had sent a text message to a colleague stating 'I HATE BLACK PEOPLE ... I hate blacks. End of story.'

What is the name of the "colleague?"

Where is the screen shot of the text message?

In the real world, those things would exist and would be included in a non-fictional hit piece, but it's OK in a fictional hit-piece.

She’s 29 years old. She is white.

The accused text message was 2015, and she denies sending it. Her reply is “These are not my feelings today, nor were they mine when I was a teenager.” She would be 19 then, almost 20. Odd wording, as if she is hiding behind teenage status.

They can’t debate Justice Thomas and win when it comes to the Constitution, so they keep trying to smear him.

Yet, the Left isn’t concerned that Ketanji Brown Jackson doesn’t think the First Amendment should constrain the Federal Gov’t.....

Judges often hire as law clerks qualified young law graduates or lawyers whom they know in some fashion. The position of law clerk is one that requires a high degree of trust and compatibility with a judge. Nowadays, it is hard for conservative judges to find and hire qualified conservatives, so this hire by Thomas is well-chosen.
