Plenty went wrong that had nothing to do with accident.

First, I doubt the bridge was built, inspected, or maintained correctly. Baltimore is one of the most corrupt cities in the nation. Of course, so are most democrat hell holes.

They did not installed large concrete islands, called dolphins, around each of the bridge’s piers to absorb unwanted impact and redirect errant ships back into the channel. This could not happen to the new Sunshine Skyway bridge now.

Every bridge that deals with these large cargo ships should now have this protection after what happened in 1980s and now.

That said, follow the money and you will find out way such a poorly designed, unmaintained, and unprotected bridge existed.
