He pleaded not guilty to 12 counts earlier this month as part of superseding indictment over an alleged bribery scheme.
New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez on Thursday confirmed he would not seek reelection as a Democrat, but suggested he may do so on an independent ticket.
Menendez is currently facing a litany of federal charges though he denies wrongdoing. He pleaded not guilty to 12 counts earlier this month as part of superseding indictment over an alleged bribery scheme. Former Menendez associate Jose Uribe has pleaded guilty to seven charges related to the same allegations.
"I will not file for the Democratic Primary this June. I am hopeful that my exoneration will take place this summer and allow me to pursue my candidacy as an independent Democrat in the general election," he said. "This would allow me the time to not only remind New Jerseyans of how I've succeeded in being your champion, but how we will secure our financial futures, meet the challenges of raising a family, owning a home, provide for a college education, and secure a more peaceful world for all of us to live in."

I’m guessing he was told in no uncertain terms that the party will not put money into his campaign. But funny, they seem to want to keep him around for now because they only have 1 seat majority - and the Senator from WV Manchin isn’t much of a “my team only” player.
Technically speaking, the GOP has 49 and the Dems 48 with three “independents” who caucus with the Democrats. Sinema is out. Dems may be able to keep that seat but I’d love to see it flip. Manchin’s seat will flip. Hopefully the seats in Maryland and Ohio will also flip.
Lautenberg, I think. There was also that bond money Goldman Sachs guy, but I don’t think he was charged. A handful of locals and congresscritters also over the last 50 or so years.
Why isn’t his maggot getting the Trump treatment? Shouldn’t Menendez be broke by now and everything he owns turned over to the ghettopotamus sistahs and their Trump-hating so-called “judges” or he get the RAT “untouchable” treatment?
I think I’m losing it, but I am starting think that he may have a chance. No one with the kind of firepower aimed at him would continue like this unless they had a decent chance of beating the charges.

Bob looking for reduced charges, dropped charges or a plea bargain slap on the wrist in exchange for keeping the Senate seat in Democrat hands. Even here in left wing NJ, a Republican Senate candidate will get 43-44% of the vote. A Menendez independent run will make it hard for Democrats to keep the seat with the unpopular and extremely unlikeable Tammy Murphy being given the nomination by Phil.

This is a ploy and message from Menendez to the Biden cabal and Merrick Garland’s corrupt Justice Department. Either give me and my wife a no jail, resign in return deal or I run as an independent split the Democratic vote, a Republican takes the seat or worse I expose the details of Democratic fraud in NJ and elsewhere.

The Supreme Court has already ruled in his favor in the McDonnell case. Unless the prosecutor can name an “official act” sold by Menendez for a bribe, an acquittal on the bribery charge is likely. That’s why they are piling on any charges they can think of, hoping something sticks.
