Uber and Lyft announced their eventual suspension of services in Minneapolis following the City Council’s authorization of a new city ordinance. Specifically, the ordinance would require Uber and Lyft drivers to be paid a “minimum compensation.”

Nice job Minneapolis. Your workers can’t be exploited if they are unemployed.
For the entire time I tried to work as a consultant, I ran into problems where the smaller companies said they’d been told by the IRS and other agencies that they would not be allowed to hire consultants. They had to hire full time or part time people for their highly compensated jobs. They were threatened with lawsuits, and they sometimes had to sign letters of agreement to abide by essentially unpublished and arbitrary IRS rules or face having their accounts seized. By the time they’d be able to work through the legalities they’d be out of business. The government is the Mafia with a dental plan and great retirement. So, the idea the Uber, Lyft and delivery company models would work long term was always dubious. Those models came along during a different president than when I was trying to consult. But government is government.
Talk about a motivator!

This is how firms need to react gping forward.
Auto and appliance makers should jist stop selling in California instead allowing it to hold us all hostage.
Drivers get like 30-40% of a fare from Uber ? Stop driving everywhere.
Stupid is, is stupid does.
“This is how firms need to react gping forward.”
I agree, however, there isn’t a win in this for America. The masses are stupid, and will be told endlessly by the leftist media that this is yet another example of evil done by businesses.
Seriously ? Ever wonder why there are so many illegals working for Uber and Lyft ?
That pretty much kills Uber and Lyft in the entire Minneapolis-St Paul metro area if they are prohibited from dropping off or picking up passengers at the MSP International airport. It begs the question as to what state laws give the City of Minneapolis the power to regulated these private businesses.
