Folks here are ignorant and badly misinformed.

By attacking the cooling towers, the nuclear plant can be shut down with no consequences like those at Chernobyl

“If Ukraine starts to fall apart because of dwindling US and EU support, I can see elements inside of Ukraine getting desperate and doing something incredibly reckless like attacking a Russian Nuclear Site.”

If? What do you mean if? We’re there now!

There was no personal attack. There was a statement of facts

My understanding is that the nuclear reactors inside Ukraine are already all under Russian control. Little news gets past the fog of propaganda, but at the outset of the invasion, the reports were of Russian troops taking control.

It would be most stupid of anyone to try to deliberately repeat Chernobyl.

Suppose they attack the reactor directly, they are shown in the picture you posted, are the reactors breach able by Ukrainian Weapons, I don’t know for sure.

(earlier post by bert: “You are now by default a Hamas war crimes abettor”)

Mods, please deal with this guy. Calling someone a supporter of a terrorist group, without any evidence of such, is one of the worst personal attacks that I’ve seen on this site.

I agree with you, IMO it was inevitable this would happen.

I hope someone involved in this mess will remain calm and make some logical decisions.

“Putin sent his bombers to Syria to get them out of harm’s way.”

I had a history professor at the University of Cincinnati back in the late 70s. I can remember him relating “the most terrifying sight” of his lifetime. He spoke of seeing the contrails of Wright Pattterson’s B-52s over Southeastern Ohio as they stayed airborne to avoid being caught on the ground during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

I know this is off the subject, but is this place named for the family in War and Peace?

Calm, logical? From the warmongering maniacs in DC? This is no time to crack wise. The dip$hits and traitors in DC are doubling down. As part of the $300 million in arms now on the way to the Uke stooge, ATACMS are included.

NEW YORK, March 13. /TASS/. The US Department of Defense is ready to provide Ukraine with longer-range ATACMS, which stands for the Army Tactical Missile System, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Kiev has been “pushing the Pentagon to provide long-range ATACMS missiles, which have a range of more than 180 miles and could add to Ukraine’s ability to strike Russian forces in Crimea,” the newspaper writes, citing US officials. “Pentagon officials had previously insisted the US military needed to retain all of its longer-range ATACMS to meet its own military requirements,” the paper notes. However, “the Pentagon is now open to providing the longer-range ATACMS because of progress in acquiring a follow-on system dubbed the Precision Strike Missile.” Still, the officials declined to say whether US President Joe Biden would approve the move.

Politico wrote earlier that Washington might send ATACMS missiles to Ukraine secretly the way it had been done last summer with Anti-Personnel/Anti-Materiel (APAM) missiles, which are an older version of the long-range ATACMS.

On Tuesday, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan announced another $300 million package of military aid for Ukraine, which would contain artillery rounds and rockets. However, Sullivan added that he had no announcements on ATACMS.

The Washington Post, in turn, reported, citing sources, that the new aid package announced by the White House would include medium-range cluster rounds from the ATACMS. However, “US officials declined to say whether they also are sending long-range ATACMs munitions.”.

I take it the Russians haven’t used the 35+ years since Chernobyl to put western-style containment vessels around their reactors?

“Isn’t Chernobyl located in Ukraine, it’s still how from the nuclear disaster in the 80s, they’re still several active reactors at that facility.”

All are shutdown, the last one in 2000.

he New Safe Confinement (NSC) was completed in 2016 to confine the remains of the reactor no. 4.

I’m not disagreeing with you, we have certifiable lunatics running the asylum, all we can do at this point is hope someone in power is overcome with logic and sanity, which is asking for a miracle it seems.

The point I was trying to make is that the nuclear plant can be damaged but not harming the reactors.

There was a very precise strike on a refinery distillation column and I believe storage tanks. There could be precision hits on important components at the nuclear plant that might put it out of action but not create nuclear endangerment.
