Portugal has gone to the polls, in a vote that will either keep the centre-left in power or shift the country to the right.

The left-wing media call Chega a 'far-right' party when it is a populist-right party.

In Portugal, as in many other democracies, the populist-right is on the rise and, together with the traditional right (or, conservatives) and the (true) liberals, constitute a large majority of the electorate.

The left-wing media try to demonize the populist-right to split the right of center parties. In addition, in this country and selected other countries, the left-wing appeals to minority voters. This is how progressive socialists try to gain or retain power in the face of the majority being right of center.

Another ploy of the left is to claim the economy is doing well when, in fact, the standard of living among the working class has been deteriorating. The unemployment rate is low, but prices outpace wages, and tax increases reduce take-home pay. What is particularly galling is that welfare recipients and illegal immigrants get stuff for free that we can no longer afford.

The proper way to look at income is income AFTER taxes PLUS cash and in-kind transfers, adjusted for inflation. By this measure, working people below the median have been doing worse. But, in their pompous arrogance, the left-wing media tell us we should be happy because something called the economy is doing well.

The slave owners of old used to say such things. They said their slaves lived better than free workers in the North. No. Not then. Not now. The underground railroad ran North, not South. And, the working class whites of the South were also dragged down by the slave system. Not only is freedom the better economic system, it is the better moral system.

Let's go Chega and the other parties to the right in Portugal!

Far right means that the powers that be are corrupt out of touch ineffective and need an appointment with a lamppost.

When you are a Marxist, I guess everything else appears to be the “far right.”

Nor Communist or Socialist. Let alone Extreme Socialist. I guess all those folks’ views have no extremes, per the media.
