Since collapse in material technology is always preceded by collapse in the practice of social technology, Dark Ages are always preceded by Intellectual Dark Ages. Knowledge of these social technologies is highly compartmentalized and, as a result, they are not understood explicitly by all parts of society. This means that a society undergoing an Intellectual Dark Age doesn’t realize it is going through one at all—all the people who would notice are long-gone, and those who remain are miseducated, role-playing the forms left behind by their predecessors without realizing that they’ve lost the substance. Well technology is the province of white male racists which has now been expanded to cover Chinese, Japanese, Indians and women of all of the above, at least those who aren’t useful idiots by holding DEI and “the science” above actual technological mastery. We don’t mention Irish, Italians, Jews, Portuguese, the Spanish and many Hispanics whose “whiteness” may once have been questioned but their rise in the ranks of scientific and technological accomplishment long settled that they are in the white racist camp if for no other reason than that many of them are Catholics which puts them squarely in an already hated privileged class of those who oppress through the Christian religion.

What most people do not think about is that there have been a lot of civilizations which have lasted a long time, the Chinese Japanese,Greeks and mayans had civilizations that lasted a long time, but we do not think of them as much as European failures

Very interesting premise. Unsure of its veracity, though, as it applies to modern times. We have far better methods of knowledge preservation, with far better organization, and with many forms of media. This contrasts with Roman or even Elizabethan times, in which the primary forms of knowledge preservation were the quill, the papyrus, and word of mouth as it passes from generation to generation.

Not if you are going to judge them the way you do European civilizations which is as continual cohesive society.
The Chinese like to brag about their 5000 years of civilization but when you study their history you discover the same trend of rise and fall with "dark ages". What happened to the Zhou dynasty? Well, they split up. Sort of like the West and Eastern Roman Empire did. But lets count the time from when it started until the last bit fell and you get just under 800 years. Using that kind of logic for the Roman Empire, it lasted 1500 year.

don’t forget the Egyptian civilization which also lasted a long time.

In schools the concept of "look it up" and the corresponding "do your own research" is being replaced with "trust the experts". People have the accumulated knowledge of the world literally in their hands and are being trained not to use it.
Of course as we transfer knowledge to electronics and get rid of physical knowledge we are also making the knowledge more fragile. All it takes is a nice big solar storm and we lost a bunch of knowledge including how to rebuild what we had.
And there is the fact we have handed over a great deal of the job of running and maintaining systems to the government meaning people have no idea how to build and maintain those systems themselves.
As the older people die and the civic clubs close the knowledge that government need not run everything vanishes.
Do you want to help the cute and fluffy animals? You have to be a bureaucrat at a government run animal shelter when you could with less money, fewer people and more heart set up your own place to shelter the abandon doggies. But the idea never enters your head because that is what government does.

Retaining knowledge requires retaining full context.
There might be blueprints of manufacturing jet airplanes but without the infrastructure to build them the blueprints would be used for fueling fires soon enough.
Computers and cellphones would be useless bricks—perhaps they could be stacked and used for furniture.
