NC Chamber warns two GOP nominees could upset state’s business success

The largest business advocacy group in North Carolina issued a stark warning the day after this week’s primary election. In a blog post Wednesday, the NC Chamber deemed certain outcomes, specifically on the GOP side, “a startling warning of the looming threats to North Carolina’s business climate.”

The chamber, which tends to give money to more establishment candidates, identified two primary winners as particularly problematic. One is Michele Morrow, a home-school mother who bested incumbent Republican Catherine Truitt in the race for State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Morrow attended the Jan. 6 rally to support then-President Donald Trump’s unfounded claims of election fraud.

“We are here to stop the steal,” Morrow said in a video that she posted online while attending the protest. “We are here to ensure that President Trump gets four more years.”

The other candidate the NC Chamber cautioned against is Luke Farley, who edged out Jon Hardister in the primary for labor commissioner.

“Luke Farley is a far-right candidate whose two main campaign platform items were banning vaccine requirements for employees and ‘Making Elevators Great Again,’” the chamber wrote.

But these platforms appealed to Republican voters. On X, formerly Twitter, Farley’s campaign spokesperson David Capen fired back against the chamber, saying, “There is nobody more qualified than @LukeFarleyNC to serve as Labor Commissioner.” Capen was commenting on an article from Business NC, which first reported the NC Chamber’s stance. He emphasized Farley had earned the support of longtime labor commissioner Cherie Berry. In its post, the chamber said it fears having such polarizing, populist figures head the education and labor departments would dent the state’s sterling business reputation. CNBC has ranked North Carolina best for business each of the past two years.

Now ask yourself, what on earth does the superintendent of schools have to do with business.

And the answer to that question leads to how intertwined liberalism has become, especially I guess in North Carolina.

It's probably WHAT businesses the "Chamber" wants to favor and attract. And conservatism in government puts a wrench in whatever insidious plans they have.

GOOD!

Trump’s unfounded claims of election fraud.

Pointless to read such drivel. Yet another useless leftwing rag.

Trump’s unfounded claims of election fraud.

The fact that every media outlet has to repeat this mockingbird memo bullet point in every news story is evidence that they know there was fraud and that they know that most Americans know there was fraud.

But unlike Goebbels' axiom, the more the derpstate pushes this big lie, the more people question the veracity of 2020. You would think they would stop calling attention to it at some point.

Good points. And I fear we are being set-up for a repeat this November.

Thank you. Now I know of two more MAGA Republicans I will vote for in November. If the Raleigh fishwrapper hates them, you know they’re good.

“Don’t forget the UNC-CH connection to Wuhan.”

I didn’t know there was one. But that’s likely the type of entanlements that are causing panic should people other than their preferred candidates get elected.

Agree, same with WRAL and WTVD. I think people are catching on. All these news outlets dislike Republicans, yet so many regular folks like the Republicans, hmmm let me find an alternate news source and research these candidates and make our own decisions. That and the obvious state of the country that we can see yet the media denies

The Chamber wants corporate welfare. Conservatives are less likely to hand out taxpayer money to favored businesses.
